Meet Ty-zha Linton

We were lucky to catch up with Ty-zha Linton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ty-zha, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Growing up in the Bronx, NY, I was far from confident. As a young Black girl in a low-income household, I always felt out of place. I wasn’t sure who I was, but I knew I didn’t want to be the person I was at that moment. I wanted to be anyone else—someone who fit in, who wasn’t limited by my environment or circumstances. I followed trends blindly, mimicking others, hoping that by doing so, I could erase the feelings of not being good enough.

As I moved through childhood, I was constantly seeking approval. I’d watch other kids and try to adopt their style, their attitude, their interests. It felt like I was chasing something I could never quite catch, like I was a puzzle piece trying to fit into the wrong shape. I didn’t know how to stand on my own two feet. My self-esteem was low, and my identity was fragmented—shaped more by what I thought I was supposed to be than who I truly was.

But in high school, things began to shift. I started to realize that trying to be everyone else was only keeping me from discovering who I was meant to be. I can’t point to a single moment, but over time, I slowly started to embrace the parts of myself that made me different. I realized that my individuality wasn’t something to hide; it was something to celebrate. It was a journey of self-discovery, and while I didn’t get there overnight, it became clearer that embracing my true self—authentically and unapologetically—was key to building my confidence.

One of the major breakthroughs for me was expressing myself creatively. Whether it was through writing, rap, or simply experimenting with different forms of self-expression, creativity became a powerful outlet for me. It wasn’t just about making something—it was about communicating who I was without words. I began to understand that my value wasn’t in what others thought of me or how much I resembled them. My worth came from my unique perspective, my creativity, and my ability to stay true to myself in a world that constantly tried to tell me who I should be.

As I leaned into my creativity, my confidence grew. I started trusting my abilities more, knowing that I had something special to offer. I didn’t need to follow anyone else’s path to find success; I could carve out my own. It wasn’t a perfect journey, and there were days where the doubts crept back in, but little by little, I learned to trust myself.

Today, I know that confidence isn’t about being perfect or fitting into any mold. It’s about standing firm in who you are, even when the world wants to push you in a different direction. My story is a testament to that growth—a reminder that no matter where you start or how lost you might feel, embracing your individuality is the first step toward true confidence. And once you start walking that path, the world opens up in ways you never imagined.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hi, I am Ty-zha Renay! I’m a content creator and entrepreneur, focused on empowering others to succeed online and in their personal growth journeys. I design and sell digital products such as guides, eBooks, and workbooks, with a strong emphasis on self-development, confidence-building, and helping individuals unlock their full potential. My work is deeply rooted in my own transformation—from growing up in a low-income neighborhood in the Bronx, where I spent years trying to fit in, to embracing my individuality and building the confidence I have today. Through my business, I’m committed to helping others do the same—whether it’s through their personal or entrepreneurial endeavors.

One of the most exciting aspects of my work is how it allows me to merge my passion for creativity with business. Whether I’m sharing content on Instagram for my lifestyle and self-development brand or working on my upcoming women’s healing retreats in Jamaica, I feel most connected to my purpose when I can create something that inspires and uplifts others. While I haven’t hosted a retreat yet, I’m in the process of planning and promoting these events, which will provide women with a safe, healing space to bond, laugh, and explore their self-love journeys. I’m truly excited about what this next chapter will bring.

’m also in the process of launching my ebook, Flourish, which is all about regaining confidence and taking control of your loc journey—something I’m personally connected to. This project is incredibly special to me because it’s not just about hair; it’s about personal growth, healing, and learning to embrace the parts of ourselves we often try to hide.

My brand is all about showing up authentically, embracing creativity, and empowering others to trust in their own worth. I’m excited about what’s to come, and I’m always looking for new ways to expand and serve my community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are resilience, creativity, and a willingness to embrace growth.

First, resilience has been key. There were countless times when things didn’t go as planned, and I had to pick myself back up and keep going. Life—and entrepreneurship—are full of setbacks, but having the mental toughness to push through those moments is what helped me stay on track. My advice to anyone early in their journey is to expect challenges and embrace them as part of the process. It’s not about avoiding failure—it’s about learning from it and staying committed to your vision.

Second, creativity has played a huge role in my personal and professional development. I’ve always been someone who thrives on creative expression, and it’s that creativity that has allowed me to connect with my audience and build a brand that feels authentic. Whether it’s through content creation or designing products, creativity helps me stand out and communicate my message in a way that feels unique and genuine. My advice here is to not be afraid to experiment and trust your instincts. You have a voice that’s worth sharing, and creativity is often the best way to unlock that voice.

Finally, embracing growth has been essential. I’ve always been someone who’s willing to learn and evolve, whether it’s through developing new skills, seeking out mentorship, or simply reflecting on my own progress. The ability to adapt and grow has allowed me to pivot when necessary and consistently improve. My advice for anyone early in their journey is to stay curious and be open to learning—whether that’s through courses, books, or real-world experience. The willingness to grow is what separates those who stay stagnant from those who push forward.

In short, resilience, creativity, and growth are the building blocks of success. Cultivating these qualities will help you navigate the ups and downs of any journey and keep you moving forward.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The number one challenge I’m currently facing is staying present and managing the overwhelming urge to look too far ahead. As someone who is passionate about my work and future goals, I sometimes find myself stressing about what’s next or how everything will unfold, which can take me out of the moment. To overcome this, I’ve been practicing more gratitude and focusing on taking things one day at a time. It’s about reminding myself that I don’t need to have everything figured out right now. Additionally, since moving to Jamaica and being surrounded by the island’s natural beauty, I’ve found that the slower pace of life and the constant connection to nature are helping me stay more grounded. Another huge factor is being a mom to my 2-year-old daughter, Seven. She has taught me the importance of truly being present—whether it’s in the simple moments we share or in her constant reminders to slow down and enjoy the now. These shifts in my environment and mindset are helping me reduce anxiety and stay aligned with my goals, embracing gratitude, nature, and the joy of motherhood as tools for staying in the moment.
