Meet Mercedes Hernandez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mercedes Hernandez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mercedes below.

Hi Mercedes , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I feel I have earned my confidence through life experience and it’s true as you get older you really get to feel those insecurities that are so ingrained when your young, those start to melt away with age. Don’t get me wrong I still have my moments, but I see so many things that are more important in my life and that I’m more important than what those insecurities are. I am a mother, wife, an autism advocate for my sons, and a domestic abuse survivor. I believe all of these things whether good or bad have transformed me into the strong confident and magical woman I am today.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My brand, Midnight Moon Makeup Artistry, is dedicated to making women and men feel their most beautiful confident selves while incorporating a magical and enlightened environment.
Being a las vegas native and working in the Hotel and resort industry I have been able to incorporate the guest experience an truly give the best customer service. In gaining experience in local runways, photoshoots, and bridal clientele I am able to provide any style or look that my clients wish. My brain is constantly filled with new ideas and excited to make anything glittery and beautiful. So I’m always interested in working with other creatives, photographers, videographers, and models to create art and magic. I am so happy to be able to pursue my dreams while making people feel like the beautiful beings they are on the inside. I have an amazing husband and family that has helped me chase my dreams and can’t wait to see what the universe has in store for me on my makeup journey.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe being a mother and working in in the hotel customer service industry has given me the greatest tools to be able to become a pro makeup artist. These have taught me time management, multi tasking, and the ability to adapt to any situation or conflict. Living in las vegas we have people from all over the world visit our city and hotels. So to be able to communicate and create a relationship with people who are so different, i think, is truly a gift.

The best advice I can give anyone who is starting out on their journey is to make the first step towards your dream and keep going. Don’t allow anyone or anything tell you you can’t. Do everything in your power to keep pushing forward, as long as you do so with clear and good intentions you will never regret investing in yourself.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I believe it’s so important to invest in your strengths as well as areas your weak in. In makeup there are so many different ways to create a look and so many talented artists that you can learn from. Why not learn a tip or trick that someone has perfected. My goal is to continue learning and perfecting my craft. With any opportunity that is presented to me I always give it my all. Especially when working with other artists I always appreciate any constructive criticism because when everyone works together to level each other up we all win.
