We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Brooke a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I believe resilience is the award given for the few who still get in the ring despite never having won a fight.
I have always had the mentality of never giving up on something I love whether it’s my work or working on my mental health.
My bosses tend to appreciate this trait of mine; however, I cannot say my liver has always appreciated it.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a comedian based out of Nashville, TN. My comedy is based on my own experiences and struggles in life from relationship problems to my problems with green leafy vegetables.
I am very focused on healing the mind from trauma. In my spare time, I research the connection between trauma and the mind, body, soul, and spirit.
I started a TikTok channel called “Ashley Talks Trauma” where I share bits of my own experiences and what I have learned about the mind and trauma.
I also wrote a book about my story and how I am healing from trauma now. I don’t share all of my story on social media because I need book sales.
My book Ashes No More” is available on Amazon or wherever you buy books online. It is also available at Landmark Booksellers in Franklin, TN and at Logos Christian Bookstore in Nashville.
You can also find my book at the Brentwood library if you’re on a budget.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say a quality I have that impacted my journey is my commitment to putting in the work and never giving up on taking care of my mental health. It’s so easy to give up or let ourselves become distracted when traveling the mental health journey.
I am terrible with maps and directions so I’ll take this credit of being able to safely navigate my way through my recovery path. Thank you very much.
I’m not afraid to ask for help and I’m not afraid to try new things. I believe being open minded to your own recovery is essential. I got stuck in different types of therapies and programs that told me my journey had to be done a certain way and I don’t believe that. We are all individuals and our recovery should reflect who we are and not what a system tells us to do.
Find your own way.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Book of Job.
The guy handled every horrific thing that happened to him like a boss and came out on top.
