We recently connected with Joey Betesh and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joey , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I believe that purpose is passion. One of my first jobs as a teenager was assisting in operating a retail chain in New York. Through this job, I gained insight into every aspect of the business. My duties entailed everything from sweeping the floors, to organizing merchandise on the shelves, to warehousing and buying products. Since these early days in retail I have always had a passion for creativity and lifestyle brands, knowing I would likely create my own brand one day.
I have always had a yearning to stay and feel creative despite not always being in a typical classified “creative” role.Knowing I had this deeper sense of purpose with creativity underneath my day to day, I decided a few years ago it was time to tackle my passion. Through time and dedication to this project, Double Black was born and became my creative outlet for the next few years…
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Double Black is more than a brand, it’s a lifestyle. Born out of my own journey, Double Black was inspired by my love for skiing and the iconic Double Black Diamond trail—a symbol of the ultimate challenge in the mountains and in life.
Double Black is built on the idea of embracing challenges, whether on the slopes, in life, or in creative pursuits. As I explored this new venture in fashion, I wanted to do something exciting, something that speaks to people’s ambitions. So I decided to turn to the ski world, where passion and thrill converge, and build a brand around that energy to relate to people on an everyday basis.
What excites me most is seeing how people connect with the brand and its meaning. When others come across Double Black, they immediately sense its cool factor, its depth, and its power to inspire. It’s not just about fashion; it’s about the stories we tell ourselves every day—how we push ourselves and achieve greatness, even if it’s one small step at a time.
The Double Black Diamond brand represents everyone’s biggest achievements and obstacles we face on a daily basis.

Whether you’re into skiing, the outdoors, or just looking for a brand with a deeper connection, there’s something for everyone!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I put love and respect at the forefront of everything I do. There are so many directions one needs to take in order to create a brand; production;design; marketing; photography; finance, etc.. Along every step of this process requires working with various people and personalities and learning how to adapt and come together to produce great work while enjoying the process.
So, I believe the first step is to know how to work with and engage with people and personalities with integrity, honesty, and kindness. Secondly, always ask questions, you will never regret asking a question that opens a door. Being able to ask questions despite ego allows for new experiences and understanding; an invaluable trait. Finally, use your network to the best of your ability. Never stop trying to connect the dots, it will get you further than you can ever imagine.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I am always open to new and relevant collaborations!
We have worked on collaborations with our outsourced agency, The Conduite, with brands like Leon’s Bagels in New York and are always on the hunt for new opportunities. I am specifically interested in influencers in the health/wellness/athletic world, and collaborating with brands who are open to pop-ups where both parties benefit.
