Meet Jules Mcdonald

We were lucky to catch up with Jules Mcdonald recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jules, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

I’ve overcome and persisted through mental health challenges by channeling my experiences into helping others through yoga and mindfulness. For me, yoga isn’t just a physical practice—it’s been a lifeline for finding mental clarity and emotional balance. It’s given me the tools to navigate tough moments and reconnect with myself, and that’s something I aim to share with others.

I’ve learned to simplify yoga systems and adapt practices to meet people where they are, especially when they’re dealing with struggles like injuries, lack of motivation, or feeling disconnected. These challenges aren’t just physical—they often reflect deeper mental and emotional barriers. By addressing them openly and with compassion, I’ve not only grown stronger but have also created space for others to do the same. Turning my experiences into resources for empowerment and resilience is my way of transforming challenges into strength, for myself and for the community I serve.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My journey in yoga started as a personal exploration of movement and mindfulness, but over the years, it has evolved into a purpose-driven passion for helping others connect with themselves and their communities through movement, mindfulness, and teaching. As a yoga teacher, teacher trainer, and author, my focus is on empowering new and aspiring yoga teachers to overcome the challenges of confidence, physical limitations, and creating authentic student connections. But beyond teaching teachers, I also love supporting practitioners in discovering the deeper layers of their practice—whether it’s through mobility work, breath-body connection, or simply finding moments of peace in a busy world.

One of my most personal and exciting projects is my book, Savasana Reads: A Collection of Short Meditation Scripts, that I self-published back in February. You can get this book on Amazon. This book is a labor of love, created to help teachers and practitioners alike bring a sense of calm and clarity into their yoga classes or personal practice. Each script is carefully crafted to guide you into relaxation, reflection, and connection, making it perfect for savasana, meditation sessions, or even as journaling prompts. Writing these scripts allowed me to share my voice in a way that feels both creative and deeply supportive for anyone looking to deepen their mindfulness journey.

I’m also passionate about creating tools and resources that make yoga accessible and empowering. For practitioners, I focus on helping them improve their mobility, build self-awareness, and overcome challenges like injuries or stagnation. I offer online group classes, one-on-one sessions, and even mobility-based programs designed to help students feel stronger, more flexible, and more confident in their bodies.

For teachers, my newest offering is a yoga class structure toolkit—a straight-out-of-the-box solution for those who want to walk into a class with confidence, knowing they have a clear, impactful sequence ready to go. Whether you’re a newly certified teacher or just looking to refresh your approach, this toolkit is designed to simplify the process and take the stress out of planning.

My website, julesdaduloyoga.com is also available for Hybrid and Flexible 200HR Yoga Teacher Training, mentorship, and online yoga classes. I’m also working on adding yoga and mobility videos tailored for teachers and students alike. It’s a space where I aim to share everything I’ve learned about creating thoughtful sequences, teaching effectively, and embracing yoga as a tool for personal growth and connection.

At the heart of everything I do is a deep belief in the power of yoga—not just as a physical practice, but as a way to find joy, resilience, and meaning in our everyday lives. Whether you’re a practitioner looking to reconnect with your body and mind or a teacher ready to take your teaching to the next level, I’d love to walk this journey with you. Together, we can create, grow, and thrive.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, I’d say three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that had the most impact were adaptability, the ability to connect with others, and a deep understanding of anatomy and movement. These weren’t things I had mastered from the start—they were areas I had to grow into and develop over time, and they’ve shaped how I approach my work today.

Adaptability was essential, especially when I transitioned from being a studio owner to focusing on online teaching and teacher training. Life will always throw challenges your way—whether it’s a shift in circumstances, injuries, or even self-doubt. Learning to pivot, adjust, and find new paths forward has been key to staying aligned with my purpose while still growing and evolving.

Connection is at the heart of everything I do. Whether it’s building relationships with students, mentoring new teachers, or reaching out to my community through social media and email, I’ve learned that real impact comes from creating a sense of trust and authenticity. People need to feel seen and heard, and as teachers, our ability to foster that connection is just as important as any technical skill.

Finally, a solid understanding of anatomy and movement has been a game-changer. Teaching isn’t just about leading poses—it’s about understanding the body and how it moves, so you can guide others safely and effectively. This knowledge has allowed me to tailor my teachings to meet the unique needs of my students, whether they’re overcoming injuries, working on mobility, or just wanting to feel more confident in their practice.

For those early in their journey, my advice would be this:

Embrace the unexpected. Challenges will come, but they’re opportunities to learn and grow. Stay open to adapting your approach—it’s often in those moments of change that you find your true path.
Cultivate connection. Whether you’re teaching or practicing, focus on building relationships. Listen deeply to those around you, and don’t be afraid to share your own story—it’s in that authenticity that you’ll inspire and connect with others.
Invest in your knowledge. Take time to learn about the body and movement. This doesn’t mean you have to be an anatomy expert overnight, but the more you understand, the more effective and confident you’ll become as a teacher or practitioner.
Above all, trust that your journey is uniquely yours. Growth takes time, and every step—even the challenging ones—brings you closer to your purpose. Keep going, stay curious, and know that you’re capable of incredible things.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
