Meet Serena O’gwin-miranda

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Serena O’gwin-miranda. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Serena below.

Serena , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from the incredible women in my family, especially my Abuelita, Irene. She was the matriarch of our family and lived to be 101 years old. As a single mother and entrepreneur, she showed me the power of perseverance through her actions and values. Watching her navigate life’s challenges with grace and determination left an indelible mark on me. Her journey empowers me to work harder, knowing I will never face the same hardships she did as a woman.

My latin roots also play a significant role in my resilience. Growing up with the strength, tenacity, and wisdom of my culture, I learned early on the importance of community, hard work, and staying true to my identity. It is a deep sense of pride in my heritage and the women who came before me that keeps me motivated to push through obstacles and build a better future for myself, my family, and others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Professionally, I am the founder of Networth Insurance Services, where I specialize in helping micro and small business owners protect what matters most. I offer tailored solutions for general liability insurance, commercial auto insurance, business owner’s policies, and key person life insurance, focusing on providing a personalized, customer-centric experience. What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to mentor new business owners, guiding them on their journey to building a strong foundation for a successful business. I love helping them navigate the complexities of insurance so they can focus on what they do best—growing their businesses.

I am passionate about helping others create residual income, achieve time freedom, and take control of their financial futures. A key part of my mission is to serve as a trusted advisor, supporting clients with empathy, expertise, and a deep understanding of their unique challenges. I’m also deeply committed to empowering fellow women entrepreneurs, drawing inspiration from the strong women in my life—especially my Abuelita, whose resilience and entrepreneurial spirit continue to motivate me every day.

In addition to my insurance services, I am an Independent Associate with LegalShield, offering business owners access to a Provider Law Firm in US and Canada. With a small business plan from LegalShield, you can get the expert legal support you need without the huge legal bill. A low monthly fee gets you a ton of legal services you can use for simple and complex issues your business faces every day. This is especially important for micro and small businesses that don’t have the budget for expensive legal fees—providing big business solutions on a small business budget.

Whether I’m guiding someone through a policy selection, offering business coaching and mentoring, or simply being there to help navigate their insurance needs, I’m driven by a desire to help others thrive and succeed.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on my journey, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my growth as an entrepreneur are **resilience**, **customer-centricity**, and **mentorship**.

1. Resilience – The ability to overcome obstacles and continue pushing forward, even when things seem difficult, is a quality I’ve carried with me from the strength of the women in my family, particularly my Abuelita. She always told me, “Siempre Adelante, nunca para atras” (Always Forward, never look back). This powerful mantra has shaped my approach to life and business. In the face of challenges—whether it’s navigating insurance regulations, managing client relationships, or dealing with market shifts—I keep moving forward. For those early in their journey, I advise embracing resilience by shifting your mindset. Instead of seeing setbacks as failures, view them as learning opportunities that build your strength and perseverance.

2. Customer-Centricity – Building strong, trusting relationships with clients is at the core of my business. I’ve always believed that if you focus on helping others and truly understanding their needs, success will follow. Whether it’s through offering tailored insurance plans or legal services, the key is to put the client first. For those just starting out, my advice is simple: listen to your customers, understand their pain points, and create solutions that genuinely make a difference. Building trust and delivering value will always yield long-term success.

3. Mentorship – From the very beginning, I’ve been passionate about mentoring other entrepreneurs, especially micro and small business owners. Helping others build a strong foundation for their business is something I truly enjoy. Mentorship allows you to share your knowledge, but also to learn from others. If you’re just starting out, seek mentors who inspire you and offer guidance. And, once you’ve gained experience, don’t hesitate to mentor others in return. Sharing knowledge creates a powerful cycle of growth, and it’s something that can accelerate your journey.

For anyone just starting out, my advice is to focus on developing these areas: Stay resilient in the face of challenges, always put your customers first, and seek both mentors and opportunities to mentor others. Each of these qualities will not only help you grow as a business owner but also as a leader in your community.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m always looking for opportunities to partner and collaborate with other micro and small businesses that are eager to grow and expand their networks. Social media has been a game-changer in how businesses connect, and I believe it plays a crucial role in today’s success. It has made building relationships and referring business so much easier, creating a space for us to support one another and reach a wider audience.

I’m particularly interested in collaborating with businesses that value value-based visibility—those who prioritize showcasing their expertise and solving their customers’ problems rather than simply promoting products or services. This type of collaboration is not just about boosting visibility but also about building trust, authority, and long-term relationships that benefit both parties.

If you’re a small business owner looking to expand your network, share your expertise, and create meaningful connections, I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to reach out to me via my social media platforms or email, and let’s explore how we can collaborate to build each other’s businesses and make an impact in our communities.
