We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Justin Revoner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Justin, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I was raised by a single mom who always made sure my younger sister and I took pride in every part of our lives. She constantly reminded me of my worth and spoke affirmations over me almost every day—and she still does. My mom made it clear that no matter where I am or what I have, I matter. That’s something I’ve carried with me ever since.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a barber with over 20 years of experience, splitting my time between the barbershop and working on film and TV sets for the last 6 years of my career. I love connecting with people from all walks of life helping to build confidence and get them ready for some of the most important moments in their lives. My brand is all about providing exceptional service, and I’m focused on continuing to grow and create something truly innovative and unique in this industry. I want to be remembered as someone who either created something groundbreaking or played a key role in bringing it to life. It’s not about vanity for me, it’s about legacy. At this point I have no interest in chasing projects just for the money. What drives me now is the impact I leave behind and the mark I make on my culture.Stay tuned… Big things are coming!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Creativity – As a barber, I see myself as an artist. No two heads are the same, so every client is a new canvas and a fresh opportunity to create something unique.
2. Willingness to Learn – You’ll never know it all. There’s always a new technique, style, or trend to pick up. As long as you stay open to learning, it’s hard to fall behind.
3. Adaptability – Things won’t always go as planned. You have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I’ve learned to work with what I have, do my best, and still get the job done.
For anyone just starting out, my advice is simple: show up, stay consistent, and keep going. Growth comes with time and effort!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always looking to connect with like-minded people. At this point in my career, I’m focused on uplifting and making art prevalent in my work and I would love to connect with artist from all walks of life. I would love to connect whether you do hair, paint or create films. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about my legacy and what I’ll be remembered for. I want to collaborate with people who are striving to create something meaningful and unforgettable. I want to help create projects that will outlive us all.
Shoot me your ideas. Let’s shake up the world.
