Meet Chandra Mayne

We recently connected with Chandra Mayne and have shared our conversation below.

Chandra, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Honestly, growing up this was something I never paid any attention to because I was who I was and I didn’t see color or recognize being the “different” one in the room. Growing up in Southern California the room was just a place.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a Gel Nail Specialist in North Texas. I live in a small but growing town by the name of Anna. I’ve spent the last 2 years really honing in on my specialty. I’ve tested endless products and I’ve worked with every medium you can think of. I’ve learned through trial and error my true passion lies with natural nails. I enjoy taking my clients on a healthy nail journey. Many of my clients didn’t think having long natural nails was possible. It’s the excitement on their faces when I’m finally able to give them the nail shape they want without having an extension added to their nails.

Aside from loving what I do, I’m also in the process of creating nail products such as gel application and art brushes, nail brush cleanser, and my own line of structure gel/builder in a bottle. My creativity goes beyond my clients and me sitting in the chair. My goal is to create products for other nail techs to enjoy and continue to enhance their creativity by providing quality supplies. I’ve spent the last year designing my nail brushes and gel products, I can’t wait to share them with the world.

I do all of this on top of prepping for our grand opening/ribbon cutting of our permanent location! That’s right 6 Twenty-Six Nail Café is moving into it’s very own salon we get to call home! I’m looking forward to expanding my team and servicing many more nail babes.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the qualities that have allowed me to be most knowledgeable in my craft is my ability to listen, observe, and execute. My advice for anyone embarking on a journey is to always be teachable. In this industry we never stop learning. . Trends change, new things take off or become popular and it’s important to not get left behind.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Are you kidding me?! I’d love to find a local nail bestie. I’d love to find someone who is just as passionate about creating art on tiny canvases as me. I’d love to collaborate with other nail techs and kick off my podcast, or learn and grow together. If you’re local and looking for a nail bestie, let’s connect!
