Meet Maya On Marz

We recently connected with Maya On Marz and have shared our conversation below.

MAYA, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Confidence and self-esteem didn’t come to me overnight—it was a process of rebellion against every voice, including my own, that told me I wasn’t enough. As an artist, I realized that the world didn’t need another cookie-cutter version of what was already out there; it needed me, raw and unapologetically myself. I embraced my flaws, my failures, and even the pain that shaped me because I knew those were the things that made my art real. I stopped waiting for permission to shine. Instead, I gave myself the green light and let my creativity run wild. Confidence came when I started owning my story-every heartbreak, every misstep, and every victory. It wasn’t about perfection; it was about showing up, even when the odds seemed stacked against me. To every rebellious soul out there: dare to take up space. The world doesn’t need you to blend in; it needs you to burn bright, just as you are.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is MAYA-ON-MARZ, and I create music that’s truly out of this world-literally. I would say that my sound blends the raw energy of hip-hop with the cosmic feel of alternative music, in hopes to take listeners on a journey through emotion, rebellion, and self-discovery. What excites me most about my work is its ability to connect with people who feel like they don’t fit the mold. My music is for the dreamers, the misfits, and the ones who dare to be different.

Right now, I’m in an exciting chapter of my career. I recently released my music video “ECLIPSE”, which showcases my unique sound and creative vision. And I just wrapped up performing at live shows across Texas, including The Ruins, Tune’s World, Vibes Texas, and Creatives Don’t Die. I’m also working on new music and preparing to launch some cool merchandise soon so be sure to be on the lookout for that as well.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey as MAYAONMARZ were authenticity, resilience, and the willingness to learn and adapt. I think the best advice I could give to anyone who is still early in their journey is that at the end of the day, know that the journey is just as important as the destination. Stay true to your vision, and remember that every step, no matter how small, is part of building something extraordinary. In life, there are no such thing as losses, only lessons.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

One book that has played a profound role in my development as an artist and individual is “Women Who Run With the Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. Its truly a masterpiece. Overall, it’s a book about reclaiming the parts of yourself that society tries to tame and silence, and that message resonated deeply with me, both as a woman and as an artist.

One of the most impactful nuggets of wisdom that I gained from the book is the idea that creativity and intuition go hand in hand. For me, this meant embracing my authenticity and using my art as a vehicle for self-expression, even if it meant taking risks or going against the grain. Whether it’s a song, a movement, or life itself-it’s okay to embrace the act of rebellion, resilience, and the connection to something greater. Just leave your mark.
