Meet Louis Farace

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Louis Farace. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Louis below.

Louis, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Throughout my life I have consistently been hit with the question “Why don’t you talk?” I was always very introverted and would be the guy at a party who sat in the corner trying to hide. As far as art goes, I have been fairly confident in my skills for a bit, and when I started a new job doing art restoration, I feel like learning new techniques and painting a lot more really helped me progress. People would tell me they liked my work and that made me feel more confident. With music it was a similar process, but it took a lot longer. The first time I got on a stage in front of people I’m surprised I could even say anything at all. In that regard, I’d say meditation and introspection helped me great deal in order to recognize myself and what I wanted. It may sound cliche but it’s really true that until you spend a good deal of time alone just thinking, you might be trying to fulfill what you think others want from you instead of what you yourself really desire.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

For the past 6 years I have been doing pet paintings under the name Lou’s Paintings. It has been a very fulfilling process for me, realizing that people really do like my work and will keep it on display for years to come. I’ve also come to realize how much people truly love their pets. To be able to produce something people really cherish has been very rewarding. My website is louspaintings.netlify.app and there you can see my work and order pet portraits for possibly the lowest price of any professional. You can also feel free to email me at [email protected] for quotes. With music, I have really been busy setting myself up on lots of platforms to make my songs more available to the public. You can find my newest album under the name Isor One ‘Hidden Knowledge’ on Spotify, Bandcamp, iTunes, and Apple Music.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities that have helped me the most are perseverance, flexibility, and empathy. I feel like these qualities can help one to excel naturally in whatever field they choose. I think perseverance is fairly self-explanatory but vital nonetheless. To me it does not only mean trying repeatedly but being able to adapt to changing circumstances and maneuver around obstacles. Integrated with perseverance is flexibility, which to me means being able to shift perspectives. Being able to see from multiple perspectives is a skill that helps you to network, build with others, and most importantly develop some sense of inner peace. In connection with flexibility comes empathy and the ability to step inside someone else’s shoes so to speak. Practicing empathy is important in relating to others from different backgrounds or circumstances. Developing these three skills can help you feel gratitude and gratefulness for your gifts and talents, recognizing what makes you special and different.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The one book that has been the most important to me and impactful on my life is Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda. This book opened my eyes to a new world, giving me strength, purpose, and the will to continue with my artistic endeavors. It is beautifully written and has been printed in over fifty languages. It taught me about yoga, meditation, and the extraordinary lives of saints, gurus, and yogis in India and elsewhere. It is one of the few books ever written that successfully combines religious and scientific teachings.
