We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emphasiz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Emphasiz, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my parents, who are the ultimate role models in bouncing back and getting things done. My Mama is a powerhouse! I’ve seen her tackle tough situations with little to no help, sacrificing her fun to make sure everything’s handled. And once the dust settles, it’s like nothing ever happened—just good times all around. From her, I learned that minor setbacks should never derail your goals.
Then there’s my Pops, the DIY KING! Seriously, there’s nothing he can’t figure out (and that’s just scratching the surface). Whether it’s fixing cars or troubleshooting computers, he’s got it covered. From him, I learned that there’s always a way to reach the finish line. If I need to outsource or dive into more research, I know I’ll find a way to get it done.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an independent artist and my passion lies in creating music that resonates with people on a deep level. What excites me the most about my work is the ability to tell stories and evoke emotions through my songs. Each track has it’s own sound and is a piece of my journey, blending alt-inspired vibes with modern Trap elements to create something unique.
One of the most special aspects of my art is its authenticity. I draw inspiration from my own experiences and the world around me, ensuring that every lyric and beat is genuine. My goal is to connect with listeners, offering them a soundtrack to their own lives and experiences.
Right now, I’m working on some exciting new projects! I’m gearing up for a series of live performances that will take place around Texas, bringing my music to life in a whole new way. Additionally, I’m in the process of A releasing a collab project with the lovely English Foxxx this month! We would definitely appreciate it if everyone gave it a listen.
Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for being part of this journey with me. Your support means the world!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1 Discipline has been the backbone of my progress. It’s about consistently putting in the work, even when motivation isn’t even there. My advice for developing discipline is to create a routine that aligns with your goals. Set specific, achievable targets and stick to them. I look at it like, just 5 beats a day for six months can lead to significant songs over time.
2 Honesty, being honest with myself and others has been crucial. It builds trust and keeps you grounded. For those starting out, practice self-reflection regularly. Be honest about your strengths and areas for improvement.
3 Authenticity, staying true to myself and my unique voice has set me apart. For those starting out, focus on what makes you unique. Don’t try to mimic others; instead, draw inspiration from your own experiences and perspectives. Authenticity resonates deeply with audiences.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I’ll give you two, 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene and Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter by Curtis Jackson (50 Cent). From 48 Laws, I really enjoy implementing “Plan All the Way to the End”. The ending is everything! Plan all the way to it, taking into consideration all the possible consequences and obstacles that may occur.
From Hustle Harder, I learned a lot about one of my favorite entrepreneurs, and something that resonated with me while reading was overcoming fear. Fear is a significant obstacle, but facing it head-on is crucial for growth and success. He also stresses the importance of not letting fear control your actions.
