We were lucky to catch up with Quintara Tucker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Quintara, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem through a combination of self-reflection, perseverance, and surrounding myself with people who uplift and support me. I’ve always believed in the power of setting small, achievable goals and celebrating those milestones along the way, no matter how minor they might seem. Each success built my confidence and reminded me of my potential.
Another key part of my journey has been learning to embrace my uniqueness. Instead of comparing myself to others, I focused on what makes me special and leaned into those strengths. That shift in perspective helped me see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than roadblocks.
Lastly, I credit my support system—mentors, friends, and family—for encouraging me to push past self-doubt. Their belief in me, coupled with my commitment to staying true to my values and passions, has been instrumental in helping me develop a sense of self-worth that feels unshakable.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am Quintara Tucker (she/her), a dedicated Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), International Behavior Analyst (IBA), Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA), Licensed Behavior Specialist (LBS), and doctoral learner. My work is driven by a passion for transforming lives, both for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and for the professionals who support them. I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse settings, including public schools, clinics, and homes, which has given me a broad perspective on how to deliver impactful, individualized care.
What excites me most about my work is its ability to create meaningful change—not just for individuals but for entire communities. As the CEO of QB Consulting, LLC, I focus on equipping educators and professionals in special education with the tools they need to excel. One of my proudest accomplishments is authoring two widely used Staff Training Manuals, which have been implemented in classrooms worldwide. These resources reflect my commitment to fostering culturally responsive and inclusive approaches to training.
Outside of consulting, I have the privilege of serving on the New Jersey Association for Behavior Analysis (NJABA) Board of Directors as Events Co-Chair, where I help drive impactful professional development initiatives. I’m also deeply committed to mentorship, supporting first-generation college students of color, and inspiring undergraduate students through my volunteer work and speaking engagements.
In addition to my professional roles, I manage the Instagram page and YouTube channel @themysticalanalyst, where I create content that tackles important topics and advocates for diversity and inclusion in ABA. I believe in empowering Black clinicians and fostering a field where everyone feels seen and valued.
As I continue on my journey, I’m excited about upcoming opportunities to expand my impact through new professional development workshops, community events, and digital content that sparks meaningful conversations. My work is fueled by a vision of a more compassionate and inclusive world, and I’m grateful to play a role in shaping it.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were resilience, cultural humility, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Each of these played a pivotal role in helping me navigate challenges, connect meaningfully with others, and grow both personally and professionally.
Resilience allowed me to keep moving forward despite obstacles or setbacks. The field of behavior analysis, like any profession, comes with its share of challenges, whether it’s navigating difficult cases or addressing systemic inequities. Building resilience meant learning to adapt, remain focused on my goals, and lean on my support system when needed.
As a Black woman in the field, I’ve learned that cultural humility is essential—not just for understanding others but for advocating for inclusivity and representation. It’s about actively listening, embracing diverse perspectives, and recognizing that there’s always more to learn about the unique experiences of others.
A commitment to lifelong learning has been crucial in staying ahead and making meaningful contributions. Behavior analysis is a dynamic field, and staying informed about the latest research, techniques, and technologies has kept my work impactful and innovative.
For those early in their journey, my biggest advice is to stay patient with yourself and embrace the process. Growth takes time, and each small step forward is part of building the foundation for your success. Celebrate your milestones, learn from your challenges, and stay connected to the values that brought you here. Early in your journey, practice reframing challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Surround yourself with a strong support network of mentors, peers, and colleagues who can encourage and guide you during tough times. Remember, every setback is temporary and a stepping stone toward growth.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was sacrificing their dreams so I could live mine. Growing up in low-income housing, they worked tirelessly to provide me with opportunities they never had. They instilled in me a strong sense of resilience and determination, teaching me that circumstances don’t define you, but your response to them does.
Their unwavering belief in my potential and their willingness to put my needs above their own gave me the foundation to dream big and work hard to achieve those dreams. I carry their sacrifices with me every day as a reminder of what’s possible through perseverance, love, and selflessness.
