Meet Brandon Elliott

We recently connected with Brandon Elliott and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

How I got my resilience is complicated, but can be attributed to both traumatic experiences, and the dynamic of my family. I could also include organized sports.

Overcoming the humble beginnings my siblings and I had to, created the mindset and determination to never give up and the ability to take on rejection with grace.

Having 5 siblings will have its impact on being resilient. From getting to the shower first, or making the best impression on others, You had to be persistent.

Sports creates the physical (and mental) resilience in people. Despite the pain or in the face of a potential loss, you must fight through and keep your eyes on the prize or end goal/championship.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

What I do is something I have been born to do. It has been something I subconsciously been doing for as long as I can remember. Shedding light on creatives, connecting them to the outlets or resources they seek and building on public relations.

It is my love for African Americans, and educating us on the importance of Black economics, as well as the power of our dollar. We have a 2 trillion dollar spending power. How using that spending power to invest, support our businesses and creatives will inevitably assist in the efforts to get our community the help and resources it needs.

It’s exciting to get out and travel to these businesses. Seeing the variety of business types that exist. Learning that we are indeed not a monolith people. Especially when it comes to creating. I love building these relationships and praising them for the work they are doing.

I have traveled to most major cities in America, visiting nearly 300 storefronts, and sharing most of those spaces on my platform. It is like the modern day green book. It is to help show my community that it is possible to buy, support and invest in Black owned businesses.

I am working to create a space to bring these businesses together in 2025, along with merchandise to help support that mission.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As I go on this journey, having the ability to stay relatable has been key to gaining the trust and to build the bridge with the business owners.

Having been in business myself, and running operations for my own business, were we had multiple storefronts in different states. It gave me the wherewithal on what the day to day experience is like for these owners. Understanding the importance of getting people to walk through their doors and patronize their business.

One of the most impactful things have been knowing what it takes to scale. Being in the rooms, conventions, expos of all types, has given me the tools and knowledge needed to consult just about every business type I encounter.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

I was raised by my grandparents after I lost my mother at an early age. There were many things that impacted me as a result .But I cannot overlook what my grandparents taught me. From having morals,
to never sell yourself out for materials. To never forget where you come from. And one of my favorite things is sharing how blessed we were growing up. Never having to stress over not having. But most importantly, work hard at everything you do. I think having ethics coupled with hard work will get you where you want to be in life. These have been the most impactful things I could have ever gotten from my parents.
