We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Julia Bellary & Sasa Li. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Julia Bellary below.
Julia & Sasa, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Confidence isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you develop through effort and consistency. Think of it as a skill that grows stronger with time and intentional practice. The key? Small, meaningful actions every day.
Here’s our Confidence-Building Checklist to help you on your journey:
– Acknowledge Your Strengths: Take time to recognize what you’re good at and what you value about yourself. It’s not just about external validation—focus on your perspective.
– Set Achievable Goals: Start small. Even minor accomplishments can give you a sense of progress and help build your self-esteem.
– Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Growth often comes from trying new things. Challenge yourself to take on opportunities that stretch your abilities.
– Practice Gratitude: Focus on the positives in your life. Reflecting on what’s going well can shift your mindset and build confidence.
Speak Kindly to Yourself: Replace self-doubt with encouraging, positive self-talk. How you speak to yourself matters.
-Surround Yourself with Support: Build a network of people who uplift and inspire you.
-Commit to Lifelong Learning: Confidence grows as you gain new skills and expand your knowledge. Stay curious and embrace opportunities to evolve.
Building confidence is a journey, not a destination. Be patient with yourself and trust the process—it’s worth the effort.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We’re so excited to introduce GlowJob, a beauty podcast that’s more than skin deep! Born out of our shared passion for skin health and beauty, this podcast explores how the beauty industry impacts us all and its intersection with business, pop culture, and society at large.
We met in esthetician school and clicked instantly, bonding over our love for skincare. On GlowJob, we’ll break down the science behind your favorite products, bust common myths, share expert tips, and explore the latest trends—all with a healthy dose of education and entertainment.
Whether you’re a skincare enthusiast or just getting started on your journey, GlowJob is here to help you glow smarter. Stay tuned—our first episode drops soon!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Pursuing Continuous Learning: GlowJob wouldn’t exist if we hadn’t taken a leap and signed up for esthetician school. When we walked into class on day one, we didn’t know each other and at the time, we were both working full-time jobs in tech and finance with zero beauty experience. What started as a chance to learn about skincare in a professional setting became so much more, thanks to the friendship and support we found in each other. If there’s a class you’ve been thinking about taking, this is your sign—go for it!
2. Get Out of Your Comfort Zone:
Living in Los Angeles gives us access to countless beauty events and opportunities to connect with like-minded people. By stepping into this vibrant community, we’ve met incredible beauty founders, connected with fellow skincare enthusiasts, and learned so much about the industry. These experiences have fueled our passion and encouraged us to actively participate in the beauty world. Our tip? Do some research, find events that spark your interest, and attend—even if you’re flying solo. You never know what you might discover.
3. Ignore Your Inner Critic:
That little voice in your head that amplifies doubts and insecurities? It’s holding you back more than you realize. Worrying about how others perceive you can stop you from showing up as your best self. Shift your focus to your strengths and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Surround yourself with positive people and practice self-compassion. The power of uplifting self-talk is incredible—you’ll be amazed at the confidence and growth that follows.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When we feel overwhelmed, we remind ourselves to take things one step at a time. Our go-to strategy is to make everything bite-sized. Whether it’s a massive to-do list, a tough decision, or an emotional moment, just break it down into smaller, manageable pieces. It’s much easier to take action when the task feels achievable.
For example, instead of focusing on the overwhelming final goal, ask yourself, “What’s the very next thing I can do?” It could be as small as writing one email, tidying one corner of a room, or taking a few deep breaths. Each little win builds momentum, and before you know it, you’ve made real progress.
Our advice? Don’t let the big picture paralyze you. Shrink it down. Small steps can lead to big changes, and then the journey feels a lot lighter!
