Meet Big Sexy BerryWhite

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Big Sexy BerryWhite. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Big Sexy, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem at a young age. I entered the theater in high school and that was very instrumental in that development. The ups and downs of auditioning, casting, rehearsals, and performances are not for the weak-willed. You have to have tough skin to keep going after countless rejections both known and assumed.

I am also a very silly person. My name is Big Sexy. That is a very silly thing to name myself. If you know me, (and if you don’t, you should), you also know that I thrive in it. Amy Poehler once said, “There’s power in looking silly, and not caring that you do!” I felt that and found my power in not letting my inner child go and instead, embracing him and nurturing his relentless curiosity and imagination. I truly don’t care if people think I’m silly. In fact, I revel in it.

I created an entire workshop series around the concept of being silly and finding power and confidence in that space. I recently won a Toastmasters speech contest that discussed this topic. I made silliness a habit and I have never felt better.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I received my BA in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in acting from California State University, San Bernardino. In 2009, I relocated to Las Vegas and began making a name for myself in the entertainment industry.

I’ve been featured in a variety of shows, including The Lost Episodes, The Aussie Improv Comedy Explosion, Free Beer: An Improv Show, Twisted Cork, Evil Dead: The Musical, Alibi: The Show, and Hamiltunes: An American Sing-A-Long. I also hosted Karate Karaoke and continue to host it occasionally. Additionally, I have emceed several corporate and award events. I enjoy being a poet, playwright, parody songwriter, and performer.

In 2017, I joined the non-profit children’s theatre company Ants In The Pants Productions, where I taught creative writing to Las Vegas youth and performed their stories. I also ran an improv workshop for recovering addicts at Freedom Behavioral Health House.

Never one to slow down, I am constantly writing and exploring new avenues for creativity. I am currently penning my first full-length musical, Reservate This!: The Call Center Musical! and I’m in the process of getting my first book of poetry published. Recently, I started an entertainment company, Who Is Big Sexy Entertainment, which focuses on DJing, emceeing, officiating, and promotion.

I currently have 2 major passions. The first is my podcasting. In 2023, I began traveling the world as a digital nomad. I am co-hosting two podcasts. The first is about my adventures as a digital nomad, called Big Sexy Digital Nomad (bigsexynomad.com), showcasing my journey and the amazing people I’ve met along the way.

The second podcast I co-host with my wife, Nilla BerryWhite, is called Rainbow Dreamcatcher: The Love Podcast, which explores love, relationships, and human connection.

I serve as the talent, producer, engineer, editor, and publisher of both podcasts. It’s tough work, but if you want something done and can’t pay for someone else to do it yet (we are looking for sponsors), you have to do it yourself. I also teach improv, soul line dancing, and Chinese Mahjong whenever and wherever I can.

My second passion is becoming a professional cuddler. The pandemic created such a huge need for intimate, platonic connection and I have always been told my hugs are magical. I am currently setting up that business and looking to take clients soon.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The top three qualities and skills that helped me get this far in life are, listening, empathy, and silliness.

As an active listener, I have been able to know the best way to entertain people, provide the humor, joy, and experience they are seeking, and make them feel special. With empathy, I can nurture and care about the people I meet throughout my journey, and, in turn, they open up to me, trust me, and are willing to share their stories with me. Silliness provided me the ability to be free from the weight of other people’s judgment of my choices and decisions and without worrying about those, I have had the power to chase my dreams and find success in the things I have chosen to do in my life.

My advice to up-and-comers is simply to listen, care for people, and don’t care what people think of you.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I chose the collaboration question as I am seeking a partner or partners to help me finish my musical. While I am amazing at writing parody songs and other song lyrics, I am not a music composer. And while I can write sketches and scenes, I am unable to write an overall arc for the characters through the whole full play. I would love to collaborate with a music composer and playwright to make this project a reality! Contacting me is easy. You can send me an email at [email protected] or connect with me via Instagram (@bigsexynomad).
