Meet Anitra Cherelle

We recently connected with Anitra Cherelle and have shared our conversation below.

Anitra , we can’t begin to explain how much we appreciate you sharing about your PPD experience, but we can say that so many in our community are suffering from or have suffered from postpartum issues including postpartum depression and so you sharing your story and how you overcame it might help someone who is going through it right now or in the future. What can you share with us about how you overcame PPD? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I am a mother of three and I experience PPD with my last daughter. I didn’t even realize it was PPD until I have a bad break down and began lashing out on my children. That led to me hating and blaming myself for everything. I remember I had just finished feeding my daughter and I starting thinking about how I could just end it all, I felt in that moment I was a failure no one loved me not even my children. I remember going through all the ways I could kill myself and not disrupt my children sleeping. As I began to discuss it with myself, God spoke to me and reminded me of Isaiah 41:10. God reminded me that I wasn’t alone and that he had me. In that moment I ask God to help me and begging to show me all these signs and series where He had never left me. That’s when I began my healing journey and I had to identify with what PPD was and I had to get to the root of why I felt that way. It was because of my daughter’s father and the reality of our relationship dynamic. So I had to began setting boundaries with him and that made my life easier and lighter.
