Meet Chacey Cox

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chacey Cox a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Chacey, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

While naturally, I am self-confident, I attribute much of my self-esteem to my mom and dad. My parents have always supported me greatly in everything I’ve done. When I decided to start doing YouTube, my parents immediately sought what they could do for me to help me achieve my goals. My mom provided me with video ideas and my dad eagerly decided to become a b-roll cameraman. They’ve always believed in me and so as a result, I grew up believing in my own abilities to accomplish what I aspired to.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I started my YouTube as a media portfolio to show to future employers. The skills I use to make my videos (Video editing software, Photoshop, etc.) are what I most want to hone and perfect. My dream is to be in sports broadcasting, whether on screen or behind the scenes, so I came up with the idea the summer before my freshman year of college to start a YouTube channel to become comfortable with editing and filming. Through this, I’ve found a love for making content. I like to plan videos with my friends and show little bits of our day or post a cover of a song I’ve always loved. I try to put videos out every Friday at 3:00 pm, but sometimes over breaks when I’m with family I’ll skip a week. I love what I do with making content, but long-term it’s not what I want to do. Content creation for me is a way to support my goals and dreams, but it’s never been my goal to succeed on YouTube. I like to have fun with my videos, and I hope they’re able to make people just a little bit brighter.
In pursuit of sports, my close friend and I are starting a podcast about the WBNA that should be releasing its first episode in early 2025. There’s not much I can tell yet, but it is certainly something to keep an eye out for. I’ll be promoting it heavily on my social media platforms.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I rely a lot on time management. Between homework, classes, working, clubs, and content creation, I’ve had to really manage my priorities. I’ve always been a busy girl, and I don’t take on more than I can handle, but I also like to challenge myself and not fall into doing too little. My time management didn’t come overnight, and I still love procrastinating, but as I actively work to improve myself I find I’m more efficient and can put out better videos. Additionally, having a knowledge of video editing before becoming a YouTuber was extremely helpful. While I’m nowhere near perfect, I find my previous experience with using video editing software like iMovie has helped me pick up Adobe Premiere Pro to make my videos higher quality. Lastly, my desire and drive to be successful have led me to where I am today. I confidently seek out opportunities to meet new people and take risks. Sometimes, you have to fake it till you make it. I don’t always believe I’m going to be successful in my pursuits, but nevertheless, I put on a smile and hold my head up high.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a busy person who likes to stay busy. From time to time, I can feel overwhelmed by my duties and responsibilities. What I’ve recently been doing to calm myself is meditating. I understand it’s a typical answer, but sitting in silence while taking deep breaths can really help me to gather my thoughts. I attempt to visualize myself successfully completing everything I need to do, and then I do it.
