Desiree, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my mother. I never saw her give up, no matter the circumstances. She kept going. I became a mother at 21, and I can say that watching my mom and becoming a mother myself has made me even more resilient. I can’t, and I won’t, give up as long as my daughter is watching me.

Hi everyone,
I’m excited to introduce myself. My name is Desiree Karyn, and I am a Serial entrepreneur and proud owner of Dolled Studio. My passion for marketing, branding, and all things beauty has driven my entrepreneurial journey for over a decade.
I started my career in beauty at the age of 18, eventually becoming a licensed cosmetologist in 2021. During this time, I discovered a love for graphic design and marketing, which allowed me to expand my business from beauty services to comprehensive branding solutions. Today, my work can be seen both locally and out of state, with logos adorning buildings and satisfied clients from various industries.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I am extremely determined, and I feel that’s my best quality because, as long as I stay determined, I will never give up on anything I pursue. I believe my skills in beauty, creativity, and designing help me develop unique ideas to establish business brands, which has been invaluable on my entrepreneurial journey.
As I’ve grown, I’ve realized the importance of listening to others before speaking. When you take time to listen, you can determine if a response is even necessary, saving energy in the long run. I also believe in reading books and gaining knowledge on my own.
For anyone just starting out, my advice is: don’t give up. Even when things get tough, scary, or there’s no income for a whole month, keep pushing. The day after you’re ready to give up could be the day you reach your dreams.”
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
God has been my backbone through my challenges while I build and develop as an entrepreneur. God is my healer, my therapist, my listening ear, and my guide in decision-making. I know most people may attribute these roles to someone in their life, but for me, it’s God alone. I became an entrepreneur because it was part of my purpose—God instilled it in me. He has guided me through lessons and challenges to shape me into the woman I am today. With him I know i’ll succeed and you will too.
