Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Terry Jessup. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Terry, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from the goals
I set for myself. I’ve learned in life when you truly want to accomplish something that what ever it takes to get there will require many small wins that will result in your ultimate victory. Acknowledging that it won’t come easy and what it takes will
Program your mind to go above and beyond.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My background started in Corporate Sales where I served 15 years in Sales, Marketing and Operations achieving many awards that landed to be a Vice president for 2 Fortune 500 companies. I used that experience to develop my own sales consultant firm called the Secret Sauce where I was able t establish many business relationships to help companies achieve their business goals. My latest endeavor is that I am the Co-Founder and Owner of the very first and only Vietnamese Resturant and Lounge named “Who Wanna Pho located In Atlanta Georgia. This opportunity has inspired me to create innovative sales and marketing strategies to expand in the hospitality space by franchising and creating more locations across the country . Through my learnings I am in the process of launching a Resturant/Investor consulting agency that will help other entrepreneurs succeed.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One of my best qualities that helped me achieve so many of my goals was first to set goals. It is absolutely mandatory that you create long term and most importantly short term goals in the journey to success. This gives you the ability to see progress because it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Another important quality that helped me accomplish so much was understanding people. People are different so it’s never a one size fits all approach. I learned to understand my audience in every engagement and what’s the best approach so that the audience can receive what you are attempting to deliver. People digest information differently so master the most effective way to communicate. Last but not least, I learned that you must add value to everyone around you. Take your self out of the equation and add value to others will always keep you I. The game. You will receive so much more for yourself with this approach and will lays be a key player in any game.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey played a major role in my growth. This book taught me how to maneuver professionally and personally through life in so many ways. A lot of skills and knowledge I’ve discussed come from this book. It is a must read not once but several times because you always learn more and more as you experience life and the many obstacles and challenges that’s comes with it.
