Meet Andrew Johnson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrew Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I developed those by constantly putting in the work towards myself and my craft. Knowing how much I’ve put into what I do solidifies them.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I DJ, I run Plotline (@plotline316), and I’m apart of GAG! (Gallery Attendants Gallery). Lots of event production done between Plotline & GAG!, as well as some social media strategy. Talent Booker in my sparest of times.

What’s most exciting about all of this is that I get to do this everyday instead of something else. Eternally grateful for the work I get to do.

Lastly, go listen to my EP titled “I Finally Paid Distrokid EP”, follow @plotline316 for all things LA, and come to the next GAG! Show (@gag.co).

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The 3 Most Impactful Qualities:

1. Having a lot of genuine interests (and questions),
2. Unwavering confidence and belief in self.
3. Being intentional.

Ways to develop said qualities:

1. Have actionable objectives, and complete them.
2. Always know what you want/you’re here for. No time for aimless actions/excursions.
3. Be deathly curious. Get lost in your interests. F around and find out for lack of better words.
4. Question everything. Everybody isn’t lying, but everybody definitely isn’t telling the truth.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

Double down on your strengths and surround yourself with people that make up for or help you improve your weaknesses. There’s so many people in this world. Utilize them and build a team. Being well-rounded is cool until a specialist shows up and makes everyone’s day easier.

You don’t get any extra points, money, credit, or incentive for doing everything yourself or being well-rounded. Especially if it’s your thing and you have the final say. At the end of the day, we’re not getting paid, acknowledged, celebrated, etc. for things that aren’t our strengths.

If well-rounded isn’t naturally you, going all in on your strengths is just as feasible if not more. This is a long and tough journey. It always helps to have folks with you. Being well-rounded is amazing though.
