Meet Nate Martinez

We were lucky to catch up with Nate Martinez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Nate, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?

When I have writers block, I will revisit all of my songs that I have already written and released. I will also just keep trying over and over and over. Eventually, I will write something that I like. I just keep writing because whether I think it’s good or not, I’m still exercising my brain and being creative.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I started playing guitar when I was 10. I have been playing for 18 years now.
In between that, I taught myself how to play bass guitar, piano, and drums. I was in mariachi, jazz band, and marching band when I was in high school. I still try to play my trombone from time to time. I would love to pursue an artistic career full time. I love having my own solo project. Ever So Slightly is where I express myself 100%. The most exciting part of it is that I write all the music, instrumentals, lyrics, and melodies by myself. Every time I complete a song, I feel so accomplished. I plan on recording new music in 2025 and spending the year spreading the word.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I believe that being flexible with your life goals is critical. Life will steer you in ways that you would never think of. Being very strong willed is important. Not everyone is going to like what you do or even support you. Willingness to learn is how you grow. Always be a student. Willing to learn at all times. I learned a lot of what NOT to do, as well.
Advice I would give is to network and treat everyone with kindness.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was showing me how to be a strong individual. They showed me that I can achieve what ever I set my mind to.
