Meet Jacob Tegtman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jacob Tegtman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jacob below.

Jacob, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Purpose may adapt at each stage of life, or sometimes change entirely. Finding purpose, I’ve found, is usually a process of being quite with myself, and listening to what I hear inside. Some people are naturally more motivated than others, or more easily set goals. Wherever you are is fine. Sometimes, the purpose you find within yourself is that simply being where you are, and being happy with that easefulness, is enough. Purpose doesn’t have to be something “grand,” or world-shaking. The point of purpose is to be harmonious with yourself, with what is.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Professionally, I am an SEO marketer, marketing agency owner, and entrepreneur. I enjoy SEO, so even though I probably “should” let my team handle more projects (so I could scale our growth faster), I stay in the day-to-day at this point, because I enjoy the work. As an agency, Third Loft Marketing and Website Design does just what the title implies. We’re also SEO experts, and tend to take on projects where someone’s been to “x number” of previous marketing companies and didn’t get the ranking results that they wanted. As an entrepreneur, I’m slowly learning how to relinquish control, and empower others. It’s a step-by-step process in learning leadership, really.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The qualities required for “success” depend on the industry you’re in, the time you do it, and the people with whom you interact. All of that is to say that qualities of success change for every person, all the time. However, each person has certain qualities within themselves which they could cultivate, if they chose, to stand-out levels, and would inevitably help them in their own journey. For me, the three qualities that have helped most have been 1) dedication to working hard and developing truly rare degrees of mastery in my chosen profession, 2) the sincere desire for others’ success and wellbeing, and 3) the ability to lead others.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

Everyone has a threshold that once hit, causes them to feel overwhelmed. For each person, that threshold is higher, or lower, than others. It doesn’t matter. Over time, thresholds increase, especially with intentionality. When overwhelmed, it helps me to be with myself, in a meditative state. Once there, I simply ask myself why I’m overwhelmed, and allow whatever answers to come that want my attention. Usually, there are simple fixes to problems in life. But dealing with overwhelm, at first, isn’t about “fixing things.” Instead, it’s about understanding your own feelings. So, once I hear those inner answers, I just sit with them and strive to accept them. And accept myself. Once I feel inner harmony again, then I know that I can take action.
