Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alex Bell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alex, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from always walking a non-traditional path. From being in night life, a makeup artist to finding my career path and founding archer+alex. I’ve had to learn resilience in each chapter of my life. As a creative, our resilience is our greatest asset, but hardest lesson to learn – especially when you are in rooms and situations where your best interest is not being considered by other parties.
I also look at my mom, and how we quite literally grew up together. She was learning and growing just how I was and being able to see a strong resilient woman take so much for so long and come out on the other side happy, healthy and living her best life.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Alex Bell, I am the owner and lead maker of archer+alex – a bath, body and home brand that focuses on creating sustainable products that are mindfully made and never boring.
I fell into soap making as a hobby and realized it was something that I would do for the rest of my life and after almost 4 years in business, it’s become a vehicle for my creativity, but also a way for me to build community and educate and empower people and communities around me.
This next year and next chapter of archer+alex is going to have a heavy focus on creating content for my social channels – that way we as a community can have a place of peace to unplug, but to also focus on really pushing the possibilities and limitations of the products I can create and deliver.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back at my journey the three things that have impacted my path and my growth the most are:
– Let your self embrace your wins. No matter the size of the win, it is something we need to give us that spark and motivation to keep us moving forwards.
– Feedback when well intended, is there to help you grow. It may not be the feedback you are looking for or wanted to hear, but when we listen and we don’t judge – we create a space for innovation, trust and your growth will skyrocket.
– Set and maintain your boundaries. Only give people the time you’re willing to let them occupy. When you set and maintain healthy boundaries your personal and professional networks will either celebrate you or scrutinize you and that juxtaposition will allow you to find your path and the folks you want in your corner.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
As someone who struggles with anxiety and a history of substance abuse, something that I’m very open and honest about, I’ve had to rebuild and restock my tool belt to learn how to navigate stress.
In this new chapter of Alex, I’ve built community with friends and family who will keep me accountable to my betterment, so I reach for activities now including:
-Hiking and walks with my dog Archer, we return to nature with a downloaded playlist and cut the world out for a bit just to recenter.
– Yoga has been incredible for me, leave all the stress, hurt, heartbreak, anger on the mat. Apple Fitness+ has been huge in helping me to create spaces let go at home and when I’ve been on the road.
– Returning back to little Alex. Allowing myself to return to my inner child and draw, watch movies or give myself the ability just create, explore and heal.
