We caught up with the brilliant and insightful 1K Spin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
1K, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
It comes from wanting a better living of life. It’s easy to self discipline when you truly want better.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
1KSpin is a musical artist originating from Birmingham, Alabama. His love for music came shortly after his collegiate basketball career where he was an All- American and Conference Player of the Year. Covid took a huge toll on Spin’s mental state. Spin was working at warehouse when one day he randomly freestyled Infront of friends at the time and his friends believed he had potential to actually make something of himself with music. Next day his friend took him to a studio where Spin recorded his first song and fell in love with everything about it. The writing, the recording, the finished product, the whole process he fell in love with it. From that point Spin took it upon his self to find himself in his music with certain melodies and emotional punchlines that fans could enjoy. He decided to pack up and move to Austin, Tx to chase his dream of being an successful artist. Spin has released an EP called Remorseful Heart to start off 2023 and has his first solo EP on the way in April called S.P.I.N (Sometimes. Pain. Is. Necessary). Fans are gravitating heavily towards the melodic, heartfelt Spin. He recently performed during the major SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Tx on the HipHopSince1987 which has created a great buzz him as a artist. Spin wants his supporters to know he is forever grateful for the support he is given as an artist and there are major things coming not just for him but his supporters as well!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Persistence, consistency, and dedication. The advice I would have for folks who are early in their journey is don’t take the easy way out. The more you work for it. The most rewarding it will be.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Learning how to let things play out. People will show themselves and situations will workout.
