We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angela Fuller. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angela below.
Hi Angela , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence and self-esteem developed through a journey of resilience. After a car accident left me with chronic back pain and years of inactivity, I struggled with body image and self-worth. Postpartum depression following my second pregnancy only deepened my sense of disconnection from myself.
Fitness became my turning point. Zumba provided both physical and emotional healing, reigniting my self-esteem through dancing and empowerment. A pivotal moment came when my best friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer, inspiring me to embrace life fully, strengthen my faith, and focus on self-love and wellness. This shift, along with a commitment to fitness, helped me shed both physical and emotional weight that had held me back.
Becoming a fitness instructor allowed me to share my story and empower others, especially moms. A huge confidence boost came when I had the honor of being the closing speaker at a Zumba convention in front of 4,500 people. Competing on American Ninja Warrior and being featured on news outlets, podcasts, and global media further strengthened my belief in my abilities. Overcoming fear, returning to gymnastics, and becoming the oldest female to complete the gymnastics decathlon at NAIGC Nationals—and representing the USA in the Masters World Cup—proved to me that I am unstoppable. These experiences reinforced my belief that age and setbacks should never stop us from chasing our dreams. True confidence, I’ve learned, comes from perseverance, embracing challenges, and always pursuing what we love.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a fitness instructor, competitive gymnast, motivational speaker, and American Ninja Warrior contestant. My mission is to empower others, especially moms, to prioritize self-care and rediscover their inner strength. Fitness, for me, goes beyond physical exercise—it’s a journey of transformation, resilience, and connection.
What excites me most about fitness is its ability to help individuals break through self-imposed barriers. Whether I’m teaching group fitness, competing in gymnastics, or training as an American Ninja Warrior athlete, I’m constantly inspired by the power of persistence and overcoming challenges.
I’m particularly passionate about my work with moms. I lead morning fitness classes at the Highlands Ranch Recreation Centers, where my goal is to help women build both physical strength and mental resilience, reminding them that it’s never too late to pursue their dreams and improve their health.
Looking to the future, I’m expanding my community outreach with fun themed fitness parties and events, and continuing to grow my brand through speaking engagements, media appearances, and podcasts. I’m dedicated to encouraging others to embrace fitness and self-love at every stage of life.
Fitness has transformed my life, and I’m committed to helping others experience that same growth. My mission is to inspire people to invest in themselves, proving that with determination, anything is possible.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three key qualities that shaped my journey were resilience, a growth mindset, and a commitment to community.
Resilience: Overcoming my back injury and postpartum depression taught me to keep moving forward despite challenges. Embracing setbacks as opportunities for growth helped me make progress. Advice: Reframe challenges as growth opportunities and take small steps every day toward your goals.
Growth Mindset: Embracing a mindset that every experience—success or failure—is a chance to learn was essential in my return to competitive gymnastics and pursuit of American Ninja Warrior. Advice: Focus on learning, not perfection. Consistent effort over time builds skill.
Commitment to Community: Building a supportive environment in my fitness classes was crucial to my growth. Being surrounded by others who share your goals creates motivation. Advice: Seek out or create a community of like-minded individuals who inspire and support your growth.
To develop these qualities, commit to consistent action, learn from both wins and setbacks, and remember that growth is a continuous journey.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I use a few key strategies to regain balance:
Pause and Breathe: Deep breathing, prayer, and meditation help me reset and calm my stress response.
Prioritize and Break Tasks Down: I break tasks into smaller steps, tackling them one at a time and focusing on what’s most important.
Move My Body: Physical activity, such as walking or Zumba, helps me shift focus and reduce stress.
Connect with My Support System: Talking to family, friends, or colleagues provides perspective and lightens the mental load.
Practice Self-Compassion: I remind myself that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed and try to be kind to myself during tough moments.
The key is to acknowledge the overwhelm, make space for it, and take small, intentional steps forward.
