Meet Helen Corveleyn

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Helen Corveleyn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Helen below.

Helen, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

Pessimism is heavy. It’s a burden that takes energy for me to uphold, making my “Default Setting”: optimism. As a conservationist, this can be a difficult default. As we say “Life is a Journey”- but on this journey there are ups and downs and roadblocks we encounter. When faced with these roadblocks, I drink from the well of youthful optimism and look to children for hope. As a lifelong educator, I made a conscious decision not to choose Environmental Policy as an occupation, a detour from my original plan in college. Too often in the policy realm of decision making optimism is condemned to the “rose-colored glasses” folks. Looking through the eyes of our youth in environmental education helps me to distill down what is truly important. Children see the world through unburdened eyes, and when our well dips below the waterline, sometimes their view is what it takes to replenish that source of nourishing hope.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As an educator, my desire is always to inspire with information. This inspiration can come in many forms: through professional discourse and workshops given on a national stage at conferences or through international travel experiences, or through my book, “Let Nature Be Your Teacher”, which can be purchased on Amazon.

I am an author, educator and life long explorer. Seeing the world has allowed me to inspire others to be passionate about conservation and connecting respectfully to our natural world. A desire to travel and ignite new self-creativity manifests in a variety of ways. Through speaking engagements, freelance writing and offering workshops, I aim to inspire others to lead a life of positive radiance through the lens of the natural world.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Connect to people . Make conscious decisions to make connections to others who lift your spirits and make your mindset positive!

2. Connect with Nature. Do something every day that grounds you in nature no matter how busy you are. While you are driving find a pretty spot that you always look at- I call it my “gratitude gaze” something that reminds you that nature is ever-healing.

3. Connect Spiritually. Whether you are religious or spiritual, make sure you are connecting through engaging in gratitude and making mindful attempts at restoring positivity to the space in which your belong.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I would like to expand my creative wellbeing by sharing with others how to put themselves into the world with a positive mindset through nature based wellness. Through my writing, sharing my books and connecting with others about nature based mindfulness and educati8on. Examples of connections could be offering workshops/experiences by incorporating nature based experiences for children, book clubs, women’s groups etc.
