We recently connected with Alexis Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Alexis, we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I would be lying if I said it was easy to do. It was quite difficult in the beginning. Initially my support system encouraged me. My friends and family supported me every step of the way. I also began establishing minor goals for myself to boost my confidence. A close friend talked to me about coping methods and doing things that make me happy, and ballooning is something I enjoy doing and provides an opportunity for a positive outlet. I remind myself to be resilient and strong. God’s got you. There’s something bigger in store.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a balloon decorator. I make balloon garlands, arches, and columns. I began by focusing solely on balloons, but I have gradually expanded to include other aspects of event decorating. I’m now trying to extend my business by getting an event center; I won’t go into too much detail, but I am definitely working on a few things.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that had the greatest impact on my path were discovering new techniques that worked for me, time management, and allowing God to lead the way. My advice to people who are just starting or early in their path is to never give up, no matter what others say or how little support they have. Continue to share your content; someone will notice you. Continue practicing and creating material at home to expand your portfolio.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who consistently books me for their events. I have a few clients like that! My sister Nesha basically books me for all of her events! Her “Touch My Swag Cheer Competition” was one of her most recent events. It was an honor to be a part of something so significant. I also made a miniature balloon garland for a cemetery, which my friend Clarissa trusted me to deliver. That was incredibly unique and special. I appreciate everyone who has booked me more than once. That tells me that they enjoy the work I do.
