We were lucky to catch up with Yazz Giraldo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Yazz, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from overcoming my humble background and the strength I gained from conquering the challenges and struggles I faced. I now realize that the difficulties I endured during my early and formative years were a blessing. My will, grit, and discipline were developed as I faced personal, mental, spiritual, psychological, and emotional challenges growing up. It was these hardships and specifically, the opportunity to address them that made me into the woman I am now. Although I am far from perfect and still a work in progress, the will and grit I developed still burn bright and guide me in everything I do. Now that I am a mother and wife, and thanks to the love and support of my beautiful husband and children, I feel even more confident and driven, to keep pursuing my goals and dreams. My makeup brand, YazzBeauty, is a great opportunity to transfer this confidence and self-love to other women, helping them become resilient and driven. Via these elegant, practical, and dynamic products, I hope to empower these women to be as driven to pursue their goals and dreams, as I am.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As I pursued my career in journalism, while also working as a professional dancer, actress, and spokesperson, my daily routine involved frantically getting ready for castings and various events while racing around the City of Los Angeles. It was during this experience that I realized my makeup routine needed to be both effective and as efficient as possible. After becoming a mother, I truly learned the value of time management. These experiences led to the creation of Yazz Beauty, a practical, elegant makeup line, made cruelty-free, and using quality organic ingredients. I do not doubt women will love my makeup line and how it will efficiently enhance their beauty. In addition to being quality products, this makeup will help alleviate the pressures women face to look their best, no matter the situation. My first product, the 4-in-1 makeup pen, includes four (4) products in a single dispenser. These include a lip liner, an eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, and a highlighter. The perfect product to help women get ready for their day or to complete those touch-ups on the go with a single tool that fits in a small clutch. The 4-in-1 pen is ideal for all women who don’t want to carry heavy makeup bags wherever they go. Yazz Beauty will soon launch our second product, a double-sided lip liner, and long-lasting lipstick, a great addition to our line of products that we are confident women will love.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience, Creativity, and Adaptability.
My resilience was built in me from an early age, growing up in a small village in my native land. However, moving to America, learning a new language, adapting to a new culture, learning how to survive in a new country, and working hard to achieve my goals was a difficult yet enriching experience that got me to a better place in life. When I finally got to work doing what I have always loved, various roles from professional dancer to Television host, network host, and red carpet correspondent, I was struck by an illness, and then motherhood changed the trajectory of my life, teaching me another big series of life lessons. Now that I am a mother, what I consider an upgraded version of myself, I turned my attention to pursuing continued success while providing my loved ones all the attention and support they need. Through Yazz Beauty, I realized I could continue connecting with people, as I did when working as a journalist and correspondent.
Creativity has allowed me to bring something unique to women through my makeup. The beauty industry is truly competitive, and it has been exciting to find ways to stand out through product innovation and storytelling. I believe Yazz Beauty has all the right things to offer women when it comes to practicality, however as our company evolves, I would love to bring them more than just makeup, I would like to help my clients enhance their lives by delivering products that can nourish them, heal them, and help them feel beautiful from the inside out.
Adaptability has been key to understanding my audience and meeting their needs. Whether it’s learning to leverage platforms like Amazon or refining our product offerings based on customer feedback, staying flexible has helped the company grow.
Advice for those early in their journey:
Challenges are learning opportunities, everyone will encounter throughout their lives, do not be afraid of using those experiences as tools to grow, expand, and develop. You can always build a castle with the stones that life places in your path.” remember we can always change, fix, and modify, remember time is wise and we never lose unless we stop trying.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Selling makeup is much more complicated than simply selling beauty tools for women. I am now learning about the importance of quality ingredients, and the value of selling products not only to help protect skin but also, to protect the environment. I have learned even more about the importance of marketing, numbers, sales, and the business behind delivering a quality product.
