We recently connected with Anna Platen and have shared our conversation below.
Anna, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
change and adventure. sometimes we get stuck in our ways and cannot seem to find a way out. we use the same brushes, the same words, the same techniques to create the same feeling. but we forget that there are so many more things that what we know. there are endless stories and i believe, that as a creative we shall seek out those stories and tell them. connect and expand and make them known. when i feel stuck, i like to travel. see the ocean, meet new people, connect with an animal or tree or just simply existing in a foreign space. and most of the time, i find the missing piece.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
i am a german born, los angeles based actress and painter. i just came back from shooting a pilot in berlin for a new series “AVI”, which means the world to me and hopefully will change some people’s lives. in spring 2025 you will see me alongside ben affleck and jon bernthal in “THE ACCOUNTANT 2”. i am currently working on a collection of “archetypes” paintings, black ink on paper.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
#1 trust in yourself. on your journey there will be so so many people telling you no. do not trust them. create trust in yourself.
#2 there will be difficult times. create a routine, create discipline and endurance. do not give up. if you give up, it is not for you.
#3 have fun. period.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
intuition. i believe that at the core of our being we know what is right and wrong. but we unlearn how to listen to it. i choose to turn up the volume on my intuition. choose and make a conscious choice. tune in with yourself. trust that you know what you want and who you are.
