We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yuna Blu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Yuna, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Ever since I was born, I felt like a seed from the sky; searching to find my root in the various places the universe took me. We are taught from a very young age our colors, numbers, alphabet / up & down / right from wrong. But as we grow, navigating the physical form within the emotional realm, starts to shape our reality in ways within & out of our control. With age comes wisdom, naturally it starts to feel more in alignment with our destiny. A learning experience for every unique individual throughout the butterfly effect of life.
I was 17 years old when I moved to Los Angeles, CA from my small hometown in Fort Worth TX. One foot in the next chapter of my life & one foot a ghost of the past. It became psychically sickening, to hold onto so much emotion. Unable to eat, sleep or focus for days on end. I gave THC a try. As someone who grew up in Texas, I was never able to view marijuana as a medicine, more so a drug. Until I was faced with no other option. It was the only thing able to relieve me of an eating disorder due to high levels of stress, insomnia from PTSD & depression from mental / physical abuse. Every morning, I would take a eucalyptus bubble bath, with an awakening herb such as orange citrus & a sativa bong bowl. Starting the day with a lively breakfast, Lions Mane matcha or Reishi chai, then journaling in which I set my mind to that day. After bringing visions to life during business hours, I would end the day with a lavender bath, indica bowl or joint & mediation before a lovely sleep. In this ritual, I became grounded in the present moment, in control of my emotions while making peace with the past
Intertwining plant medicine into the beauty of life has opened worlds within since. When I was 20 years old, I took psychedelic mushrooms for the third time. I meditated in the grass & saw in the middle of my eyes, the image of two snakes with a sword in the middle & wings above. Afterwords, I remember being mesmerized by this image, unable to forget it. Once I got home, I wrote about it & found online ’The Caduceus” a universal health of symbol & the official insignia of the United States Public Health Services, used for over 2,000 years. It made sense for such a symbol to have such a meaning. But for how it appeared naturally while on mushrooms in my mind; unfolded a never-ending story.
This is where Velorum Opulent Apothecary began. The first woman-owned psychedelic mushroom company in America. I now grow over 50+ types, testing the various effects of each one. I will say, no mushroom is the same, just like us. Blu Meanies, Jack Frost, Yeti Stars; all related to the same psilocybin gene with different attributes. Becoming familiar with each one, grew a relationship which’s helped me throughout each chapter of life since. For microdosing {.25g}, setting an intention while being open to where you’re currently at & would like to go.
For example, if I’m feeling dull one day & would like to unlock creativity; Blu Meanie is best. Most days, I desire to feel cozy at home while still productive / clear minded, Jack Frost has become one of my favorites. If I’m feeling down & know I need the motivation to work out or be active, starting with Golden Teacher in the morning with a breakfast smoothie, sets the day up for achievement.
Once I finished college, I moved to Denver, CO where I stayed in my house mostly alone for 3 years due to the global pandemic. I tended to my plants & made eternal bonds with my animals. About two years into Covid, struggling to find faith in the future of events- I called my doctor whom I requested anti-depressants from. He stated he ‘didn’t think I should be put on anti-depressants for a temporary problem.’ He suggested I try stronger THC. It made me think, aren’t all problems temporary? Are those on anti-depressants ever really cured? Or just numb? I then studied the various SSRIs, SNIRs, SARIs, etc. with relation to all natural, ancient healing techniques. After personal research, I learned SSRIs block psilocybin receptors completely. Meaning even if you take 7g of psilocybin mushrooms and are on SSRIs, you will not feel a thing. This made me realize even more the importance of perception & how people view life {or are able to}.
Mushrooms became the answer to everything. We are connected through a universal language, much like the underground root system which runs the mycelium plant network. We can feel when one another is happy, sad or needs love. Just like when a tree is cut down, the surrounding roots send support to keep it up & growing. They all come together to save this one tree. Through this coexisting method, my purpose finds me every day.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Empathy, intuition & trust
