We recently connected with .moonflower. and have shared our conversation below.
Hi .moonflower., so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
I am often the only one in the room who looks like me, whether it be because I mostly work in a male-dominated field or because I’m navigating spaces often reserved for white people. Despite feeling like an alien no matter where I am at, my authenticity is where I find I’m most effective in leaving a long-lasting impression on others. At my core, I only care about doing my best. Someone else in the room has more experience than me? Great! I’d love to observe and learn from them! Someone else in the room trying to diminish my accomplishments? Great! Now I know who to avoid! I think what makes me the most successful is my unrelenting desire to try and try again. But no matter how many times I am willing to try, each time I will do it the way that feels the most authentic to me. I only want genuine people around me, therefore I always show up exactly as I am and if no one in the room looks like me, I have no problem letting them know they’ll never come across another me again. I have made peace with being a diamond in the rough, one-of-a-kind, etc.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am many things. Right now, I am sharing with the world my love for music and community through djing and hosting events. I currently host a weekly Monday night residency in downtown Los Angeles at The Falls lounge on Spring St. Each week I welcome djs, performers, artists, and creatives of all kinds to meet me under the disco lights to reshape our ideas of what a Monday night is supposed to look like. I am not interested in clout, I make no space for big egos. I am lover of passion and I find joy in empowering others to believe in themselves and to share their gifts with the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I have a master degree in Psychology and I feel like self-awareness, the power of introspection, and not taking things personally are three qualities that have gotten me far in life. In order to feel fulfilled, you gotta be down to take the time to get to know yourself, especially in this day-and-age of social media encouraging us to compare ourselves to others, we often do not even know what we personally like. I often am not interested in whatever is trending and most jokes fly over my head, but what does that say about me? It says nothing, because I know what I like and I mind my business accordingly. I’m never afraid to sit down with myself and reflect back on how I have improved, how I need to improve, and how I need to proceed to achieve my goals. And as far as being distracted by other’s opinions? I love to implement feedback immediately, but I have no interest in allowing someone to feel like they can tell me about myself. I know who I am, and I suggest we all take the time to define ourselves so when someone comes around tossing out adjectives, you’ll know which ones apply to you and which ones simply belong to the loud mouth who is oversharing.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am seeking collaborations with dj schools, record labels, short filmmakers, and artists to host at my weekly residency #MOONFLOWERMONDAYS. In 2025, I aim to expand my market and travel more. I would love to meet booking agents, PR agents, and managers interested in taking on a multifaceted woman.
