We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mike Parish. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mike below.
Mike, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose while in federal prison doing 11 years for armed bank robbery. I was never really a reader, but I became one after my incarceration. As I read I realized that I could come up with stories just as good, if not better. So I began to write and never stopped.
I’ve always wanted to help others not make the same mistakes that I have in life. And I’ve also been the type to take up for others not as strong physically or mentally. I just never thought it would be through books.
From prison I wrote and published my first book. Rules To The Game. It’s an urban novel with the message that street life should be avoided at all cost. Now I’m in the process of publishing another, but I’m tackling a different problem. If Only is the name of it. It’s about a high school shooter and I paint the picture of what his life is like and the bullying he endures on a daily basis. The book touches on gun laws a little as well.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Right now I am fresh out of prison. I was locked up back in 2013 for armed bank robbery and was recently released in June of this year. I’m in the process of setting up my publishing company for my books, in which I’ve written over 70. Rules To The Game and three others are already available on Amazon. If Only won’t be released until the first quarter of 2025.
In 2025 I also plan to shoot my first movie, which will be for the book If Only. And eventually I plan to start my own movie streaming service.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The first is being resilient. No matter how many setbacks I go through, I’ll always came back with even more motivation. Second, I would say my dedication. No matter what I’m doing, I fully commit to it giving it as much time as I possibly can. Last but not least is my willingness to sacrifice. No matter if it’s time or money, I’ll always put wants aside to take care of my needs.
My advice to others would be study your industry first. You want to learn as much as you possibly can before jumping into things. Then legitimize things once your research is finished. From there it’s all about staying focus and putting in the work needed for whatever it may be. And a must is surrounding yourself with likeminded people.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
The problem I have right now is that I’m still technically in the Federal Bureau of Prisons custody, so I can’t go and do all the things that need to be done. Plus there’s not enough time in the day already, so having a 9 o’clock curfew only makes it worst.
