We were lucky to catch up with Rhonda Moment recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rhonda, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I was married to my husband for sixteen years when he died suddenly. His death was a devastating loss, and I felt as though my life was over. Nevertheless, I knew that I had to continue living for the sake of my children. I sought therapy and took medication to help with the depression and insomnia. However, I had grown up in a Christian home and had a strong faith in God. My faith gave me hope and strength to carry on. I knew that God was with me and would help me through this difficult time. It was a long road, but I eventually came out the other side.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
After my husband passed away, I was devastated. In the fog of my grief, I lost touch with myself. I had always dreamed of returning to school and earning my degree, but I did not believe myself to be intelligent enough. Nonetheless, I returned to school and earned my bachelor’s degree in business management. I then went on to earn my MBA. It was incredibly rewarding to accomplish something I had only dreamed of doing. While I was on this journey of grief and even still today, I felt a need to help others like me who were going through their grief and could not find a way out. I started by wanting to help women, but then it occurred to me that everyone experiences some form of grief. To that end, I have begun creating a grief journal that will soon be available on Amazon. The journal will help you express thoughts and feelings that cannot be spoken aloud. It will help reflect on what is important and cherish some great memories.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I am grateful for the values that my parents instilled in me, especially the importance of knowledge, common sense, and compassion for others. These values have shaped me into the person I am today, and I believe they are essential for success in life. I also think that everyone has something to teach you, and one of the best ways to learn is to converse with people of all ages. I find great joy in working with my community, especially through my church’s outreach program. I have also had the opportunity to work with the wonderful group called 9to5 Georgia, where I served as a Fellow. Through these experiences, I have learned the importance of giving back to the community and the value of working with others to make a difference.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents were devout Christians who taught me the importance of faith in God and trust in my instincts. They also exemplified what hard work and true love look like. They showed me that a good work ethic is essential for success, and that true love is the foundation of any lasting relationship. Most importantly, they taught me the value of family. They showed me that family is the most important thing in life and that it is essential to put family first. They have also taught me how to be involved in my community and church. My parents have been a tremendous influence on my life. I am grateful for their love, guidance, and support.
