Meet Robin Crockett

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Robin Crockett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I learned resilience at a young age. As the oldest child and only daughter, I quickly discovered the importance of perseverance. Taking on responsibilities at home—whether rallying my brothers to pitch in or helping my mom with household tasks—taught me how to push through challenges and keep moving forward. Growing up, I witnessed the strength and determination of my mother and grandmothers as they faced great losses. Despite their moments of sadness and uncertainty, they exhibited remarkable grace and always found a way to bounce back and keep going.

As a small business owner for nearly 30 years and now venturing into the mobile app space without a technical background, I have drawn strength from their stories. Even in the face of uncertainty, challenges, and setbacks—whether when things seemed to be going well and didn’t quite pan out, or when I was unsure of the next step—I’ve held on to the belief that I could persevere. Like the women who came before me, I’ve weathered the storms and forged ahead, driven by a deep-rooted commitment to see things through to the end.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

As the proud owner of Heaven Scent Home Cleaning for the past 30 years, I have been dedicated to delivering top-notch cleaning services across the metro area. Throughout this time, I’ve also had the privilege of creating jobs in my community, especially for those with little to no prior experience. This has been one of the most rewarding aspects of being a business owner. I’ve always been passionate about encouraging others, and it’s been incredibly fulfilling to see employees grow from uncertain individuals into confident leaders, taking on roles they never thought possible.

During my journey with Heaven Scent, I identified a challenge in the daily operations—specifically, the time-consuming task of providing quotes to potential clients. That’s when I had my “aha” moment and realized the need for a solution. I envisioned a mobile app that would allow me to provide real-time, live video bids directly from my phone, which led to the creation of the Virtual Bid™ App.

As I worked through this challenge, I quickly realized that if this was a problem for me, it was likely a pain point for other cleaning business owners and solo cleaners too. That’s when I realized the potential of a time-saving tool that would enable cleaning professionals to conduct walkthroughs remotely, eliminating the need for travel, traffic, and delays. Additionally, it offers a safety feature by allowing users to interview potential clients directly from their mobile phones.

I’m thrilled to announce that we’re now wrapping up development on our CleanQuote™ Dashboard. This exciting new feature will enable users to manage their teams, track productivity, and gather data to see how the app is saving time and helping them scale their businesses. It’s an exciting step forward, and I can’t wait to see how it will empower others in the cleaning industry!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three key qualities that have brought me to where I am today are grit, a deep love for what I do, and consistency.

To all new and existing business owners, my advice is to stay fully committed to your business. I often compare it to a marriage. When you first meet someone, you’re excited, always looking forward to your time together, and you have big dreams for the future. But as we all know, the honeymoon phase eventually ends, and you’re left with the day-to-day routines that keep the relationship strong. The same is true for business. At first, the excitement of your great idea keeps you motivated, but eventually, the initial rush wears off. That’s when you realize that to succeed, you must show up every day, manage your time wisely, stay enthusiastic, and be consistent—even when it’s not easy.

I know the journey can be tough. While money is important, it shouldn’t be your only motivation. There were times when, after paying payroll, I had just a few dollars left to my name. I could have easily given up and said, “This isn’t working for me.” But in those moments, I reminded myself of how far I had come—from starting a business with just $20 to actually having a company with employees to pay. That realization kept me going.

Ultimately, it was grit that pushed me forward, my love for the work that helped me thrive, and consistency that carried me through to the finish line—30 years strong!
