Meet Jevon Woods

We recently connected with Jevon Woods and have shared our conversation below.

Jevon, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

I think creativity is endless and just having a open mind and the courage to be curious on this journey is everything.. I’ve been painting and creating for 7 years and I still feel like I’m just getting started.. I look for creative ways to solve problems, create opportunities, create moods and most importantly to create new connections in my brain.. I know that we are all creator at heart and reflections of a creator..

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’ve been painting for 7 years and I feel like I’m just getting started with all the possibilities and creative ideas & challenges.. I’m grateful to be on this path and having doors open for me to share my creativity with those that connect with it.. My main medium is acrylic, oils and canvas and wood, but I’m open to exploring more mediums and styles.. I don’t like the idea of every being boxed into one lane or style

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Keeping a open mind creatively and being patient with the process while trusting the alignment of things.. I also think that having courage to step outside the box and try new ideas is necessary.. I tell everyone if they have a idea or creative vision then to do whatever you can to honor that and bring it into existence.. Follow the creative energy

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

I have a close friend who named Jerome Spears who has always encouraged me and spoke to the artist in me.. We’ve shared dialogue, philosophies, fears and ideas surrounding art and life.. He’s giving me books, documentaries and challenges me with questions.. One book that was gifted to me by another artist friend is The Creative Act. A way of being by Rick Rubin.. It spoke to me and helped me tap into another level of self..
