Hi Maria, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I developed my resilience through my experience of emigration. Leaving my home country meant starting from scratch—learning a new language, building relationships, and finding my creative voice in a new culture. Each obstacle became an opportunity to grow, and I discovered that resilience is not about avoiding difficulties but embracing them as part of the journey.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a creative conceptual and fine art photographer, passionate about telling deeply emotional and thought-provoking stories through my work. My artistic journey revolves around themes of identity, belonging, and resilience, often inspired by my own experiences of emigration and adapting to new cultural landscapes. My recent project, **”Labyrinths of Emigration,”** delves into the psychological complexities of uprootedness, capturing the raw emotions of displacement and the search for home.

What excites me most about photography is its ability to transcend language and culture, allowing me to connect with viewers on a deeply human level. I blend traditional photographic techniques with experimental elements, creating layered and symbolic compositions that invite reflection and dialogue. My work has been recognized internationally, including the **Silver Winner in Portfolio Fine Art at the Budapest International Foto Awards (2024)** and **Editor’s Pick by LensCulture (2024).**

Beyond exhibitions in **Paris and Milan** and publications in **Vogue,** I am now expanding my artistic reach by offering **limited edition fine art prints** and participating in upcoming competitions like the **Leica Photography Awards.** These projects are an extension of my vision to turn personal narratives into universally relatable art.

For me, photography is not just a medium—it’s a bridge between worlds, emotions, and stories. I invite readers to explore my work, follow my journey, and connect with the themes that resonate with their own experiences.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three Key Qualities and Skills
Resilience:
Adapting to challenges like emigration taught me to persevere through uncertainty. Advice: Embrace setbacks as opportunities for growth and learn to pivot creatively.

Conceptual Thinking:
Developing unique ideas and narratives allowed me to stand out as a photographer. Advice: Explore different art forms, study storytelling, and practice transforming concepts into visuals.

Technical Mastery:
Understanding light, composition, and editing is crucial for creating impactful work. Advice: Dedicate time to learning and experimenting with tools and techniques to refine your craft.

For Beginners: Stay curious, seek mentorship, and be patient with your progress. Focus on your personal story and let it guide your creative journey.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

**The number one challenge I am currently facing is navigating the complexities of being an emigrant while maintaining and developing my artistic career.** Adapting to a new culture, language, and environment has been both a personal and professional hurdle. It’s a journey of finding balance between staying true to my roots and assimilating into a new space that influences my creative vision.

To overcome this challenge, I’ve embraced my experiences and turned them into inspiration for my art. My project, **”Labyrinths of Emigration,”** is a direct response to these feelings of disorientation and transformation. It allows me to process my own journey while connecting with others who face similar struggles. I’ve also sought out local creative communities and collaborations to bridge the gap between my past and present environments, opening doors to new opportunities and perspectives.

This challenge has taught me resilience and adaptability, and it continues to push me to explore the depths of my creativity, creating work that speaks to universal emotions and the search for belonging.
