We recently connected with Nathan Luce and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathan, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
My self-discipline is rooted in my love for health, fitness, and helping others. Growing up in Colorado, I was surrounded by the beauty of nature, which inspired me to stay active and adventurous. Later, living in Los Angeles during my twenties taught me about hustle and perseverance. That mix of appreciating life’s natural rhythms while embracing a city’s fast pace shaped my approach to self-discipline.
In my business, True Living Fitness, self-discipline isn’t just about showing up every day—it’s about consistency and sustainability. I’ve been in the fitness industry for over 15 years, and I’ve seen countless people struggle with unsustainable habits. My goal is to help clients build lasting, healthy lifestyles they can maintain.
Running my business takes the same mindset. Whether it’s leading a Studio Red HIIT class or creating referral partnerships with local businesses like breweries or wellness centers, I hold myself to a standard of always bringing value and authenticity to what I do. Discipline is what turns those aspirations into results.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve always been passionate about health, fitness, and the impact they have on our overall well-being. Growing up in Colorado, I was surrounded by nature, and that sense of adventure has stayed with me. After living in Los Angeles for several years, where the hustle of city life taught me the importance of hard work and discipline, I returned to my roots in fitness.
Professionally, I’m the owner of True Living Fitness, a personal training business focused on helping individuals create sustainable, healthy lifestyles. What excites me most is the deep, long-term impact I can have on my clients. It’s not just about getting them into shape; it’s about empowering them to make lasting changes and guiding them through every step of their journey. Whether it’s through personal training, group classes like Studio Red HIIT, or collaborating with local businesses like breweries and wellness centers, I’m committed to bringing authenticity, accountability, and real value to everything I do.
One of the most special aspects of True Living Fitness is its holistic approach—focusing on physical, mental, and emotional well-being. I believe that fitness should fit into your lifestyle, not the other way around.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to grow my business even more by expanding my offerings and continuing to collaborate with like-minded local businesses. There are also new events and experiences on the horizon for my clients, including more off-road adventures and wellness initiatives that blend my love for the outdoors with fitness. It’s all about creating unique experiences that inspire people to live their best, most balanced lives.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. **Resilience**: The ability to bounce back from setbacks has been crucial. Starting out in the fitness industry wasn’t always easy—there were challenges in building my client base and establishing credibility. But resilience is what kept me going. It’s the drive to keep pushing forward, even when things don’t go as planned. For those early in their journey, my advice would be to embrace the failures as learning opportunities. Growth doesn’t happen without setbacks. Build your resilience by staying focused on your long-term goals, and remember that each challenge is a step toward growth.
2. **Empathy**: Being in a service-based industry, understanding my clients on a deeper level has been essential. Listening to their needs and tailoring my approach to meet them has helped me connect with people and build lasting relationships. My advice for anyone starting out is to practice listening—not just to hear, but to truly understand. When you can empathize with others and recognize their challenges, you can offer meaningful solutions that make a real difference.
3. **Business Acumen**: As a business owner, learning how to manage finances, create effective marketing strategies, and navigate client relationships has been vital. The technical aspects of running a business are just as important as the passion for the work itself. For those just beginning, I recommend investing time in learning about business management. Find a mentor, take courses, and understand that running a business requires a mix of passion and practical skills. It’s not just about the work you do—it’s about how you manage and market that work.
In short, my advice to anyone starting out is to stay resilient in the face of adversity, develop empathy for those you serve, and never stop learning about the business side of what you do. With those three things, you’ll set yourself up for success in whatever path you choose.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who is ready to commit to making lasting, positive changes in their life. They may be in a place where they feel stuck—possibly even struggling with depression or a sense of being in the darkness. They recognize that change is essential for their happiness, confidence, and overall well-being. They are looking for a sustainable path to a healthy lifestyle, one that will give them a better quality of life.
I coach individuals who understand that real transformation doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a journey, and they are ready to embrace the process. They might be at a crossroads where they know that if they don’t make a change now, they won’t feel truly fulfilled. This type of client is committed to working on themselves—not just physically, but also mentally and emotionally.
They’re often open to confronting the tough stuff, acknowledging that the mind-body connection is key to their overall success. These clients are ready to build strength in every area of their life, not just for short-term goals, but for long-term, sustainable health.
In essence, my ideal client is someone who is tired of feeling stuck and is ready to commit to their well-being, even if it feels difficult at first. They want a coach who will guide them through the darkness and help them step into a future where they feel empowered, happy, and confident.
