Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gonzalo De La Crus. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gonzalo , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My father was a hard worker when we were children, my sister and I. He passed when we were very young.
I always seen he worked hard for what little we had and he provided for us in any which way he could.
I grew up with struggles of self doing in life. Found my way out many times through mistakes. Alcoholism took a big bad role in my life.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Tattoo (Artist)of 26 years plus and a Woodturner of almost 4 years,
I am only tattooing these days less due to opening up my own business a little over two years ago, I spend a lot of my time in my work wood shop. Tattooing is still a big part of my life and I mainly tattoo a lot out on the road while attending friends and clients from years back, I traveled for many years for tattooing.
I basically now am in the works of moving my business to Reno Nevada, which will be more of an online business versus having an open door shop for clients.
This will all be happening towards the end of this up coming year.
My direction of artistry went to wood working now as a recovering alcoholic I had to find a direction to put my spare time and energy into more positive and a productive direction to keep myself in line. Woodturning through sobriety, Sobriety through woodturning
It’s been a long journey. And I continue to follow it
Business name is Woodturning and Art LLC
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
At the point and direction I am now, looking back on how I learned from things was mainly through trial and error.
Reaching out for knowledge was my weak point, learning the hard way had alot to do with where I’m at.
Seek help and knowledge from others that have been in your shoes.
Take more classes and feed the mind as much as you can.
Do not skip steps, otherwise you will find yourself going in circles.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
My current challenge is learning to see from the outside on my progress of where I am at now,
I tend to pick at everything I do to the hairline.
Learning to accept compliments of my works of art has been a difficult challenge. It’s a good thing and also a curse.
I am currently learning to appreciate what I do as far as seeing how much I have absorbed and learned through the help I seeked and chased
