Meet Burgundy Constancio

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Burgundy Constancio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Burgundy, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My purpose found me through a random blend of circumstances, creativity, and a desire to offer something more nurturing for my clients. I started out in a salon that practiced a light version of Ayurveda. I ran with this introduction of intentional touch into my hairdressing services. My clients began to feel a sense of safety, care, and renewal, creating a deeper connection. This eventually led me to develop my Japanese head spa practice, where the real magic happens.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Burgundy, the owner of Desert Rain Hair Studio and Head Spa, Scottsdale’s first private head spa where I blend hairdressing and head spa services. From experiencing the woes of the pandemic, I craved offering something more fulfilling for my clients, where their cup is truly full leaving my space. I found and chose to specialize in head spa services when there were only other two head spas in Arizona. Head Spas offer an immersive experience focusing on scalp health, massage, and relaxation, something that really makes a difference in my clients’ lives. It’s more than just a wash- it’s a ritual of self care. Through scalp analysis, customized treatments, mini facials, and body serum candles, and so much more to come.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three most prominent qualities that have helped me on my journey are adaptability, continuous learning, and empathy.

The pandemic and my husband’s job loss, taught me to pivot and embrace the change as it comes. When my circumstances changed, I was able to come up with more meaningful services that led to specializing in head spa. I think people gotta stay open, and try to remember change leads to growth.

I’ve always loved school, and this drive has helped me create a service I’m truly proud of. My journey to head spa required research, training, and a lot of refinement. The service is completely different from when I started, and my clients soak it up. I never want to stop learning, it broadens your skill set, keeps you inspired, and enriches life.

Relationships with my clients are top priority. Empathy with them is what lead to my desire to pursue head spa in the first place. Understanding my clients lead to creating a service where they feel truly cared for. Focusing on the quality of relationships with your guests will lead to deeper connections and a blooming appointment book.

For those just starting your journey, I’d encourage you to trust your intuition, really connect with your guests, and stay open-embrace the challenges as they come. Your gut will lead you down the right path.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who values self-care and loves the idea of slowing down and being nurtured. They’re not just looking for a service, they want a chance to relax, unwind, and feel cared for. They appreciate the little details, the power of touch, and leave feeling refreshed and renewed.

I love working with people who are open-minded, respectful, and ready to fill their own cup. If you’re looking for a place to relax, recharge, and reconnect with yourself, then you’re the perfect client for Desert Rain.
