We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Adams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ashley with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
For as long as I can remember, I have always had the desire to go far in life. At a young age I learned that in order to achieve my goals I needed to work hard. I watched both my parents work long, hard days at industry jobs, never having been handed anything. No matter what I set out to accomplish, I too knew it would not be handed to me. Throughout my high school and college days I worked multiple jobs, always striving to get ahead which fueled my strong work ethic.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an interior designer specializing in full service design, remodels, new builds and small commercial. I have been collectivly been doing interior design for 10 years. My focus is to stay small to give my clients a 1 on 1 experience. While I am flexible with my style based on my clients needs I gravitate towards modern Spanish archicture. I have recently ventured into partnering with my husband and a close friend to offer a design build service. We can now help clients from beginning to end.
Ask anyone who knows me and they’d probably tell you I’m vibrant, charismatic, and love to have a good time. While true, I am also a hard worker, which led me down different avenues of work over the years. But 10 years ago I realized my passion and talent for interior design and have worked in the industry, in some capacity, ever since. My husband is in construction and we recently decided to partner together to offer a design build service. Together we offer full service design, remodels, new builds, and small construction. Despite our recent expansion, my focus is to give my clients a 1 on 1 experience, while being able to help clients from start to finish.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. It is important to develop an understanding that you are never done learning. As the world changes, so do trends and aesthetics. Continuing my education is important so I can stay up to date on new products, techniques, and training. Attending yearly furniture markets allows me the opportunity to assess products in person and get a true hands-on feel for each piece I recommend for client designs.
2. Another adjective my friends would use to describe me is honest. Being up front and honest with clients is crucial. Whether it is regarding budget or style, clients need a complete and honest understanding of what they can expect. A client may like a certain textile or piece of furniture, but it is an important aspect of my job to be honest about whether that choice works with their final design.
3. Developing the skill of visualizing a room is essential. Clients have ideas, and visions, but being able to walk into a space and expand on their ideas based on my expertise is an integral part of interior design.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth has been accepting that I don’t need to, nor should I, say yes just to please others. As an interior designer, my business is only as strong as the quality of my finished product. If an idea, product, or design is going to negatively impact the finished product then it is imperative that I intervene, an essentially say no in a constructive way. This is not something that comes easily to me, as I am typically a people pleaser, but I am working hard to grow and understand that saying no is actually helpful for exceeding the client’s expectations; which is my end goal.
