We recently connected with Jay Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Jay , thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
I persist because I now know the only value the thoughts and opinions haters and nay-sayers have is what I place on them. People who would tear others down they don’t know are misguided. Those that they tear down should always remember these are not people they should care to know. Keep doing what you’re doing as long as it’s helping people.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Jay Jones, a Senior Copywriter who, after being laid off, discovered a job market rampant with scammers. While looking for my next opportunity, I decided to do something about this problem.
To date, I’ve removed over 12,000 fake jobs and over 6,000 fake resume writers and recruiters so job seekers, resume writers, businesses, and any other legitimate professional are protected.
I vet what’s real and what’s fake to make the market easier for everyone.
I started this mission because apathy would’ve done everyone a disservice. I had my doubts and wondered if it would even matter, especially at scale, but the work is literally helping thousands of people and I’m thankful for that.
I am actively looking for copywriting clients and need to expand my reach to do business with them.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Persistence. Creativity. Faith. Do what you’re passionate about. I used to think this was nonsense when it was said to me because you want to get paid immediately for what you do. However, when you do what you love and others see it and there’s quality work, the money will come. Chase betterment, money will follow.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Landing long-term clients. While I’ll gladly do short-term work, what I enjoy are long-term partnerships where I can help shape the voice of brands/companies/business owners and refine it over time.
