We were lucky to catch up with Andrew Madrigal recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Andrew with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I come from a lineage of hard working Mexican people. My family have scratched and clawed for everything that they have. My parents are probably the hardest working people I’ve ever known. And I feel they have bestowed that upon me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m Andrew Madrigal, known professionally as ABG. I’m a hip hop artist from Santa Maria, California. I’ve lived in Santa Maria all of my life. As a young son of a preacher, I was always drawn to music in the church. I would often beg my parents to allow me to play the drum set in the sanctuary once my dad’s Sunday sermon was finished. I’ve been creating music since I was twelve. And really started to find my footing around age fifteen or sixteen. It wouldn’t be until around age 21 where I started releasing material a lot more consistently and concisely. I’m now 28 years old with 22 projects of music released and I can honestly say that I’m one of the best hip hop producers in all of the 805.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
You’ve got to be patient. Don’t compare yourself to your contemporaries. And you’ve got to be willing to put in your 10,000 hours.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
It takes a village. I’ve had a multitude of people over the years who have made me what I am today. First and foremost is my family. My parents and my siblings. If it weren’t for them I probably wouldn’t be interested in music in the first place. My significant other, who is the main reason why I’ve released so much material the past six years. My music family, The NightShift. If it weren’t for my dear friend Agustin, inviting me into his studio when I was 14, I don’t know that I’d be the creator I am today.
