Meet Shenyce Deokiesingh

We recently connected with Shenyce Deokiesingh and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shenyce , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

We’ve all been there, myself included. There are still days when I feel overwhelmed, experience self-doubt, or shed tears. However, reminding myself of my”why” is what keeps me grounded and motivated to push forward. I’ve learned to take action, even if it’s just five minutes at a time; progress, no matter how small.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

With over a decade of experience as a makeup artist, I’ve had the honor of working with some truly amazing people. I’ve been blessed with clients who trust me to be part of one of the most important days of their lives, and seeing their joy when they look in the mirror is what makes it all so rewarding. It’s about more than makeup; it’s about confidence, beauty and creating memories. While I love every aspect of makeup artistry, editorial makeup holds a special place in my heart. There are no rules; it’s a space where creativity runs free, and I can transform an idea into something truly extraordinary. That freedom to create and push boundaries is what keeps me inspired. In 2025, I’ll be launching online teaching classes to share my expertise with aspiring makeup artists and beauty enthusiasts. My goal is to empower others with he skills and knowledge to create their own beauty magic, whether for clients or themselves.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three keys lessons have shaped my journey as a makeup artist. First, the importance of continuous learning. No matter how skilled or experienced you become, there is always room to grow and refine your craft. Staying in a mindset of learning not only elevates your artistry but also keeps you adaptable and inspired. Second, kindness is essential. Regardless of my experience or position in the room, treating everyone with respect and empathy creating lasting connections and a positive working environment. Lastly, integrity and accountability are non-negotiable. When I commit to something, I ensure it gets done and on time and to the highest standard, no matter the circumstances. My clients trust me to show up, and that trust is something I never take lightly.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

I love this question! As both a makeup artist and business owner, striving to be my best self is a daily priority. Regardless of the challenges, I focus on setting actionable goals to move closer to success. For example, one of my daily goals might be reaching out to five new people to explore potential collaborations. I’m also passionate about personal development and often read self-help books that sharpen my life, communication, and interpersonal skills. Some of my favorites include, “The Compound Effect” by Darren Hardy, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, and “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale.

Here are a few takeaways that resonate with me:

– “The starting point to all achievement is DESIRE” – Napoleon Hill (Think and Grow Rich)
– “Stand up to an obstacle. Just stand up to it, that’s all, and don’t give way under it, and it will finally break. Something has to break, and it won’t be you-it will be the obstacle.” – Norman Vincent Peale (The Power of Positive Thinking)
-“In the essence, you make your choices, and then your choices make you.” – Darren Hardy ( The Compound Effect)
