Meet Ryan Summer

We were lucky to catch up with Ryan Summer recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ryan, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I guess my resilience stems from playing sport as a child. I was a national level junior tennis player, playing tennis tournaments nearly every week. When you grow up with an individual sport, you learn to keep fighting. You have to take the losses along with the wins and keep figuring out how to improve. It was very demanding, however, it certainly gave me resilience along with many other attributes.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m someone that loves storytelling and creativity. I believe it’s so deeply embedded in humans and it brings total joy to be part of it. I fell into acting later on in life, but so glad I did. It’s a dream job and i’m enjoying the journey as much as I can. I am focused on the next great role for me as an actor, I would love the opportunity to play a lead in a film or TV series.

Another focus of mine is taking my DJ’n to the next level. Bigger clubs and festivals. Watch out Coachella!! Hahaha

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Patience is definitely one, it is so important to keep a cool head and trust that the work you are doing is paying off, even if you can’t currently see it.

Consistency is paramount, you have to prove to yourself and to others that you are reliable and dependable.

Communication – Keep talking to people and helping people. You never know what opportunity may come your way.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Take a minute. If a situation is getting too heated, just pause before talking. Allowing yourself to calm down and collect your thoughts before responding, whether that be a conversation or an email, will result in a much more articulate and calm response.
