Hi Jessica , great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.

I’ve always been a serial entrepreneur. I invented scented cell phone wipes before the iphone or smart phones even existed. Think back to the flip phone, and this was around the time Swine Flu was a thing. I remember meeting with a business coach and he said to me, “when you are an entrepreneur, you have to write checks for money you don’t have, knowing it’s going to come in” and that always resonated with me. Have I been impulsive in my growth and taken the first offer I saw? Yes absolutely. But I learned quickly to do research before pulling the trigger on any business growth. And when I did make a mistake (and I’ve made my fair share for sure) I never played the victim. I always ask myself, “how can I use this to grow?” and that perspective has kept me hungry for success and growth.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I accidentally got into medspa marketing about 6 years ago. I was doing social media content for a nurse practitioner from Georgia who found me online. I had grown my social media management agency to over 30 nurse practitioners doing their social media posts and updating websites. One day I could not login to my Facebook and a friend of mine said she saw someone in her Facebook groups that may be able to help. He did medspa marketing and we got to talking about collaborating. He let me join him on a few referral sales calls and wow did my eyes open. I had no idea how to use Facebook and Instagram ads for marketing. I was massively overwhelmed but I saw an opportunity. The guy I learned from had taken an online course and was a slimy, pushy sales guy. And with my background as a physical therapist, I knew this tactic was not authentic and my nurse and doctor clients would smell that approach a mile away. So I learned everything I could about how to launch paid advertising for health, wellness and beauty brands, and most recently medically managed weight loss. But I made it my own. I made marketing sincere, authentic, transparent and most importantly honest. And that is how I’ve grown my agency.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities that have been most impactful for me are believe, believe, believe. I believe that 99% of business success comes from believing you can have it. The tech and the processes are there and easy to learn. But if you don’t believe you can do it, you just turn into a serial ‘trypreneur’ and you never cross the finish line. So my advice would be to do a simple exercise with yourself as a business owner. Ask yourself where you want to be and then analyze what is holding you back. You’d be surprised that some people are afraid of success for many reasons.
