Meet Nubia Ali

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nubia Ali a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nubia, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Creative energy flows in and around me cyclically; like most things in life are. The key is to not resist when you feel your creativity beginning to fade. Innerstanding that it’s a process that must have its ebbs and flows. When my creativity self is ready to be accepted, I step right into that realm seamlessly. So in essence, I keep it alive by allowing it to live when it does and die when it doesn’t…if that makes any sense. However, I am always maintaining a healthy art diet. I listen to great music (ambient/chill, hip-hop, jazz, rock, 60s soul, etc) watch live performances, watch chefs cook, fashion shows from my favorite designers, etc. I also enjoy documentaries about artists so that I can learn from their journey.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Nubia. I am a girl from the Deep South that loves art. I am a fashion enthusiast, plant-based home chef, poet and educator. By day, I am a Writing Center coordinator at a local community college and by night, a mom and wife. I create content for women who are unapologetic about their sense of style. I post fashion, beauty and lifestyle content each week. When I am not posting content, I am writing. I am currently working on a collection of poetry, set to be published in the spring of 2025. I am very excited about that. I have a title in mind but I am slightly superstitious about releasing the name before finishing the work. Just know, it will be a book of healing poetry for all those souls out there struggling to find the words to speak when pain sometimes needs to be verbalized.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think having genuine purpose, consistency and patience are the 3 best tools someone can have on this journey. No matter what goal you are attempting to reach, remaining focused on your “why” is essential. Having the discipline to stay consistent when faced with distractions is an elite characteristic to have and retain. And also understanding that instant gratification is not the end goal. Knowing when to exercise patience is what attracts abundance.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I typically go on a “talk fast”. I set a timer and do not speak for a duration of time. During that time, I listen and observe. I take deep breaths and recalibrate. I don’t stress about anything, in fact, I try my best not to think at all. This is a great way to reset when you feel overwhelmed.
