Meet Kyle Loftus

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kyle Loftus a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kyle , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I’ve overcome imposter syndrome by showing up and putting in the reps every single day. Imposter syndrome is something we all face, especially when we’re ambitious and set big goals for ourselves. The higher the stakes, the more competition we face, and the more critically we tend to evaluate ourselves. That often leads to feeling inadequate. But I’ve found that by committing to constant growth—just getting a little better each day—I can push through those doubts. It’s a mindset rooted in the Japanese philosophy of kaizen: striving for continuous improvement, even if it’s just one percent at a time.

The key is to take action. There’s a saying that “those who do, do, and those who can’t, teach.” I believe that by consistently doing, learning, adapting, and innovating, we can silence those feelings of inadequacy.

One example that stands out for me is learning Spanish. Four years ago, I began teaching myself the language. Two years in, I was offered a job filming a concert entirely in Spanish. It terrified me. My Spanish was good but far from fluent, and I wasn’t sure I could handle the rapid communication and noise of a live event. But I believed in my ability to adapt, took the opportunity, and made it work. Since then, I’ve worked on projects in Spanish-speaking places like Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Mexico, and recently Colombia. These experiences not only strengthened my skills but also opened doors to new cultures and opportunities I never would have imagined.

For me, overcoming imposter syndrome is about trusting yourself to grow, taking on challenges headfirst, and proving to yourself day by day that you’re capable of more than you think. It’s not about eliminating doubt—it’s about learning to thrive in spite of it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I began my career with a strong drive to build something impactful in the creative industry. From an early age, I was fascinated by storytelling and the power of visual media. This led me to pursue a career where I could combine my passion for creativity with my entrepreneurial spirit. Over time, I’ve honed my skills in videography, content creation, and brand development, always with the goal of making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.

What excites me most about what I do is the ability to constantly learn, grow, and innovate. Each project is an opportunity to challenge myself, whether it’s capturing a powerful visual story or creating a brand that resonates with people. There’s a unique satisfaction in seeing an idea come to life and knowing that it’s making a difference, whether that’s inspiring someone to take action or simply making them laugh.

One of the things that makes my approach special is the focus on helping others in the creative industry. I’m passionate about teaching and sharing what I’ve learned with others, which is why I’ve recently launched Learn Videography—a coaching and membership platform designed to help creatives around the world elevate their skills. With hands-on learning, real-world applications, and a supportive community, this platform is something I’m incredibly excited to offer. It’s my way of giving back to the creative community that’s given me so much and helping others succeed in their own journeys.

It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I’m excited to see where it goes next. The launch of Learn Videography is just the beginning, and I’m thrilled to have it available to the public.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back at my journey, three qualities have been the most impactful in getting me to where I am today: consistency, adaptability, and a growth mindset.

Consistency has been crucial. In a creative career, it’s easy to get distracted by shiny new ideas or challenges, but staying committed to the process every day, even when it feels like you’re not making big strides, is what leads to long-term growth. It’s about showing up, putting in the work, and trusting that the progress will come.

Adaptability is another key trait that has helped me navigate the ups and downs of this industry. Things change fast in the creative world—technologies evolve, audiences shift, and new trends emerge. Being able to pivot and adjust when necessary has kept me relevant and open to new opportunities. For instance, when I started working with clients in Spanish-speaking countries, I had to step out of my comfort zone and adapt quickly, using my language skills in real-world scenarios that pushed me to grow faster than I could have imagined.

The third quality is having a growth mindset. Embracing a mindset that values learning over perfection has helped me overcome obstacles and embrace failures as opportunities to get better. I’ve never seen mistakes as setbacks but as stepping stones to improvement. This mindset has helped me persevere through challenges and consistently find ways to improve, whether through formal education or hands-on experience.

For those early in their journey, my advice would be to focus on these three areas. Stay consistent with your work, even on the tough days. Be adaptable—embrace change, and use it to your advantage. And always, always adopt a growth mindset. The road will be full of challenges, but with these qualities, you’ll be prepared to tackle whatever comes your way and keep moving forward.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The number one obstacle I’m currently facing is growing my personal brand on social media and YouTube. As many others can relate, it’s incredibly difficult to grow in these spaces. The algorithms are always changing, more people are joining the platforms every day, and younger audiences are increasingly taking over. On top of that, trying to balance running a business while staying on top of trends makes it even more challenging.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of making excuses—telling yourself it’s too hard or that it isn’t working. But I find it far more valuable to step back and ask myself, What am I doing wrong? How can I refine my approach? Maybe it’s tweaking the timing of my posts, enhancing my captions to resonate more, or improving the hooks in my videos. It’s about constantly analyzing and adjusting to see what works.

To overcome this challenge, I’m developing and testing new content strategies. I’m experimenting with a mix of educational content, client work, behind-the-scenes footage, and even some relatable comedy skits tailored to my industry. I’m testing different types of content to see what drives growth while maintaining brand integrity. I don’t want to attract an audience that doesn’t align with my core values or content style.

To help manage this, I’m working closely with my social media manager. We have weekly strategy calls to discuss tweaks to our approach, like adjusting captions, and bi-weekly reviews to analyze what’s working and what needs further refinement. It’s an ongoing process of trial and error, but I’m committed to making it work while staying true to my brand and vision.
