We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Abigail Nydam. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Abigail below.
Hi Abigail, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Here’s a refined version of your text, keeping your tone conversational while elaborating on your ideas:
I’ve always carried a deep sense of confidence—it’s something I was born with. When I was four, my 90-year-old next-door neighbor, Anne, asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. Without hesitation, I declared, “a rock star.” That boldness and fearlessness have been a constant in my life—or perhaps it’s sheer delusion. For entrepreneurs, the line between the two is razor-thin, and I’ve danced along it more times than I can count.
That said, confidence hasn’t always been unwavering. Like many women in America, I’ve faced moments of low self-esteem and doubt. It’s hard not to, especially in a culture that thrives on comparison and perfectionism. I spent too much time comparing myself to other women, measuring my journey against theirs, and feeling like I was falling short.
But with time, perspective, and a little grace, I learned to let go of those comparisons. Age has a funny way of teaching you what really matters. Now, instead of looking sideways, I look forward—boldly, fearlessly, and with a deep sense of purpose.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story! Professionally, I am the founder of Sam, a groundbreaking service and platform designed exclusively for women. Sam is the support system for women—a trusted space to navigate life’s transitions and challenges, whether it’s eldercare, illness, career changes, or simply the overwhelming feeling of trying to do it all.
What makes Sam special is the depth of personalization we offer. We combine expert-led advising, curated resources, and a vibrant, supportive community, all tailored to the specific needs of each woman who joins us. From connecting with professional coaches and licensed advisors to having access to a dedicated concierge for life’s practical hurdles, Sam is about empowering women with the tools and support they need to thrive.
Sam is deeply personal to me, rooted in my professional journey and lived experiences. I’ve spent my career building programs and services that help others. From working in the White House on domestic policy under President Biden to modernizing the WIC program at the USDA, I’ve always been driven to solve problems that matter. Over the years, I’ve worked in 35 countries, focusing on designing products and services for women in low- and middle-income communities, and that work gave me a unique perspective on the kinds of support women truly need.
These experiences shaped my understanding of the systemic gaps women face—not just abroad, but right here in America. Sam is my answer to those gaps, built with input from women at every step. I’m thrilled to share that Sam is launching across America in April 2025. This has been a labor of love, and I believe it’s going to fundamentally change how we approach support for women in this country.
For anyone curious, our services range from essential community access to premium, highly personalized support, so there’s something for everyone. Beyond just a platform, I see Sam as a movement—a chance to truly reshape how we care for and uplift women.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are grit, discipline, and bravery.
Grit has been essential—staying determined and committed, even when things felt impossible. Building something meaningful takes time, and there were plenty of moments when giving up felt easier than pushing forward. But grit kept me going.
Discipline was equally important. Showing up every single day, even when I didn’t feel like it, and making consistent progress toward my goals was the difference between staying stuck and moving forward. It’s not about doing everything at once; it’s about doing something every day, no matter how small, that moves you closer to your dreams.
And finally, bravery—the courage to step into the unknown, to take risks, and to believe in myself even when doubt creeps in. Bravery doesn’t mean you’re not scared; it means you take the leap anyway — and you hope you’re wearing the right shoes.
For those early in their journey, my advice is this: Get up every day and do one thing, no matter how small, that helps you accomplish what you want. Consistency builds momentum, and momentum builds success. Also, remember this: your only limitation is your imagination. Every step, even the smallest one, matters.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
One thing a day. That’s it. And grace! I give myself a lot of grace to feel how I need to feel. My advice: discipline first, grace second.
