Meet Gavin Vale

We recently connected with Gavin Vale and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gavin, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

My confidence comes from years of putting myself out there on the internet. Though, I must admit that even now, I am not ALWAYS confident. I often find myself wrestling with self esteem, despite viewing myself as a “confident person”. It’s quite the conundrum. I think, when it comes to real people, its not so black and white.

But, regardless, my confidence comes from creating. I’ve been making content since I was in high school, and after all the years of putting out videos & pushing my comfort zone, I’ve fallen into myself a bit more. I do think, however, it takes time & commitment. You don’t get confident over night. I also have found affirmations to be quite helpful as well. Self care is vital!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am primarily a video creator. I got my start making short form videos about music & anime, and now, 5 years later, I make videos about books on both YouTube & Instagram. I also do quite a lot of livestreaming – which is not only fun, but a great way to connect with the community.

I think the greatest part of it for me is the community. There are so many niche’s on the internet with incredibly toxic fanbases – even with books sometimes – but I’ve been able to find and build a community of people who are wholesome & all share a passion. I’m proud of them for being so non-toxic, and I’m proud of myself for attracting that type of people. It’s amazing because it means we can have community events & an open discussion book club without a fear of excessive chaos.

I got my start with short form, but moving forward, my goal is longform YouTube content. I think that’s the best way to make a career out of content creation. Moving into 2025, I have a bunch of ideas for videos & livestreams, so keep your eyes peeled!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think when it comes to knowledge, that’s something you learn from experience. I think the biggest and MOST impactful thing that helped my journey was simply, creating. Turning off the part of my brain that cared about what others though and just posting. That is the most important skill. When you are going into a career online, you have to know you are opening yourself up to judgement, so the only way you’ll make it is by learning to no let others stop you from creating.

My advice is simple. Post that first video – and then keep posting.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

This may be a bit egotistical & pretentious, but myself. I’ve never really had a mentor in this stuff. I’ve had friends, of course, and they are a lot of help when it comes to bouncing around ideas & advice, but end of the day, the mentor if your analytics. The algorithm. Your following. You learn what they like, and then you create things similar to whatever that is and whatever you want to create. End of the day, you are creating a brand – and no one can market YOU better than YOU.
