Meet Tyler Free

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tyler Free a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tyler , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Confidence is one of those emotions that most people don’t understand or misunderstand. Some may mistake it for arrogance. Yet confidence is actually belief in oneself due to preparation. Confidence comes from preparation. For example, if I have a test today and I studied for the test, I go in feeling confident because I prepared. If I don’t study for the test I’ll have doubts about my abilities to answer the questions. To me confidence is developed on three levels. The first is at birth. I believe we are all gifted with certain levels of confidence. Second is through nurturing or lack there of throughout childhood. Last but not least, through preparation.
For me I believe I was born with a certain level of belief in myself. Where it grew and evolved to the next level is through my parents, family & sports. My parents always told me “Tyler you can do anything you put your mind too”. Whenever I had a problem they’d help me so much, then make me figure out the rest on my own. There was never something they didn’t believe I could if I wanted it bad enough. My grandparents and aunts and uncles always instilled in me that I have a legacy I must continue & there is greatness within in.
Sports taught me preparation & seeing the results of that preparation. All these factors are the base of what developed my confidence

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am Outlaw and Outlaw is me. My brand lives by the motto, “carry confidence everywhere you go”. With that being said it’s my duty to instill confidence and what that truly encompasses whenever you buy a bag or clothing from Outlaw. We also have another saying, “on the frontier, sometimes it’s dry and barren, other times, it’s cattle and cash, but EVERY time it’s growth and gain”.
The journey of evolving and building outlaw has been a lot of ups and downs, but through it all there has been growth and gain along the way. That is the spirit of an outlaw. Someone who knows there will be pitfalls and downfalls along there way to the top. Someone’s that embraces them, looks forward to them, & makes the choice to use it their advantage to become greater and more confident

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three skills that have been most impactful on my journey are all emotional skills. The gift of Faith, resilience, & accountability. These three skills have helped me exponentially not only in business but also in life. Faith is believing what you can not yet see. On your journey there will people who doubt you, & you will even doubt yourself but your Faith is what will always get you through & inspire new ideas. Faith can moves mountains while doubt will put mountains in front of you.
Resilience, being a former college athlete, resilience is embedded in me. You can always do more than you think you can, & you can always come back from a setback and be even better with the mental fortitude and resilience to do so.
Accountability has enabled me to not make excuses! I live by the phrase “you are what you create”. To me this means we have more control over our lives than we like to admit. It’s easy to blame people, circumstances, or events. It’s hard to take accountability of the fact we all have a choice to make. Those choices have outcomes. With this mentality, excuses are non existent

How would you describe your ideal client?

An Outlaw is someone who is willing to do what the majority are scared or unwilling to do. The ones who embrace setbacks and use them to learn and become better. An outlaw is a magnetizing individual who is an asset everywhere they go. They walk by faith and the confidence of a gunslinger that they are capable of achieving the seemingly unthinkable
